I am told that there is reference to Roger Alden Hiern in a book called "A Sketch of the town of Essex, New York" - on page 11 to be exact. Roger arrived in America in 1795 and quickly made a name for himself. Is there SKS who has a copy of this book, maybe knows a library that has a copy of this book or can somehow get the extract to me here in Tasmania, Australia? I would be so grateful. Thanks. Olga Hiern-Cooke
I will be in Essex Co. this May, researching my BURROUGHS and POST families in Elizabethtown. I'd greatly appreciate any information as to where to obtain, birth, marriage and death records. What days & hours these establishments are open and directions to the Boquet Cemetery. If I need to arrange appointments ahead of time, please note that as I will only have a couple of days for my research, and must make the very best use of my time . Thank you in advance for any help. Hi, Between 1815 and 1856 somewhere near Ticonderoga there was a Vineyard Farm, 200 acre tract of land in the Vineyard. . The Builder and owner was William and Hannah (Clough) Sweet and later Charles and Aura (Thompson) Flint along with Hannah (Sweet) Thompson. It was the first squared log house in town. When this house was built, the old log barn across the road had already been built for some time, and many think it was one of General Burgoyne's outposts. The old house was occupied by several generations until destroyed by fire in 1927 Can anyone tell me anything about this structure? Pinpoint the location and well anything at all. Thanks, Jerry

I find Capt Lewis Torrance in a listing of soldier's graves and it says "North Jay" but when I go to the official cemetery lists I can't find him. Does anyone know what the grave site in North Jay might be? That is from the 1907 Elizabethtown newspaper. Thanks Jean
On the 1798 Chesterfield/Willsborough Tax list I find the ancestor I am looking for....then he is in Lewis in 1806 on a list of people working on roads.... but he may not have moved at all? Was this geographical area the same? I am thinking that when the new towns were formed that he resided in a different tax area but was still in the same place.... Any idea about that? I think it was all within Essex County but then the boundary lines of the county changed also. Thanks J
