    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Oakley, Goldsmith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YRB.2ACE/895 Message Board Post: Catharine (aka Catherine) OAKLEY was born 15 (or 5) Jan 1811 in Mineville, NY, at least as stated on her son's death certificate. I seek her parents. On 14 Dec 1826, Catharine married Ovid GOLDSMITH in Catskill, Greene Co., New York. This couple has been found in various census records around New York including: Valatie, Stockport and Kinderhook in Columbia County. All of the census records say her parents were born in New York, but no city is given. They had 13 children. After her husband's death in 1865, Catharine ended up in Chicopee, Mass. (1880) and finally in the Cumberland and Berkeley area of Rhode Island, where she died at the age of 90 in 1901. Supposedly she was "a true daughter of the Revolution", but I have found nothing to help connect her to a specific soldier. Other Oakley researchers have come up empty handed as well. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Claire I found some new information in my scrap book that I hope you can use.A clipping mentions a Miss Jennie Butterfield who was a bridesmaid in the wedding of William P Hyde and Daisy Wheelock June 8, 1889. Also another Butterfield was mentioned in an obituary for a Mrs. Synthia Livona Olcott...no date and no first name for a Mrs. Butterfield who nursed Synthia while she was sick. Here is another one it's a wedding announcement so I'll just type it out: "At Mineville, January 2, 1890, by Rev R.H. Wallace, Charles Butterfield and Miss Sarah A. Clydesdale" I also found a note written to my gr gr grandparents(Mr. and Mrs. George Phinney) in pencil...it's so faded it's hard to read but it seems to be directions to a Dana (I think!) Butterifeld's house. The heading says North Hudson and it's dated March 17, 1881. It's signed by her. I hope these people are connected to you somehow! I feel like I'm related to every name in this book...I'm so glad to have it. Hope it helps! Jennifer

Since my earlier postings I have received a wealth of information from Catherine Persons, Town Historian of Minerva and have most of the same information collected by your great-aunt, although I show Eliza's d.o.b. as being 1838 instead of 1836. I would love to see the other info you have and will email you directly with my email and snailmail addresses. I understand there are still Lynn descendants living in Minerva but I have not had time to try reaching them. I truly appreciate your assistance.

    1. [NYE] Rork-Rorke-O'Rourke Families 1820-1850 (fwd)
    2. Forwarded.... ---------------------- Forwarded Message: --------------------- From: "Lisa Yates" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: Rork-Rorke-O'Rourke Families 1820-1850 Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 08:43:49 -0600 My family emigrated from Ireland after 1818 but before 1823. The Essex County 1820 census shows Edward Rork living in Jay. The 1830 census shows Edward and John in Jay and a William in Chesterfield. The 1850 census shows John in Keene, Joseph and Jane in Jay and a Patrick in Chesterfield. Is there any way for me to obtain more details on these censuses? I would like to know how many there were in the households for Edward in 1820, and for Edward, John, and William in 1830. I believe that William may have been my gggg grandfather but am unable to tell. My ggg grandfather's name was Joseph Rork, born 1818 in Ireland. However, he had at least 2 brothers born in Essex County, William in October of 1823, and Robert Rufus in approximately 1825. Their father may have been William and their mother's name was Isabella. WE have no record of their father after Essex County. Isabella shows up with Edward Rork in Hanover, Chautauqa County in 1850, then with Robert in Steuben county, NY in 1860, and then moved to Georgia with her son William, where she died in 1865 and is buried there. I have been unable to find out where the family sailed from in Ireland or where they landed. Was Essex County a site where immigrants landed from Ireland? My section of the Rork's ended up in Allegany County, NY around 1835. Any info would be appreciated. Lisa Yates [email protected]

I do know that, in addition to the two daughters I mentioned earlier, James and Melissa (Pettinger) Cutler had a son named Hiram who lived in the area with children and a wife, Margaret. Perhaps this will help you place this James among the many Cutlers in Essex County? Viewing the cemetery in Adams Center, I saw many Cutler graves. Some Cutlers were obviously much more prosperous than this James was. I would be interested in your Cutler information. Ann

Surnames: Cutler, Baldridge, Steel Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YRB.2ACE/143.254.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Yes, this is the family. John B. Cutler was a brother of my 3rd great-grandfather, Thomas Cutler--they were both sons of John Cutler and Catherine Baldridge. Thomas Cutler married Jane Steel in about 1812 and had five children in Jay, but by 1830 had moved to St. Lawrence Co, NY, and before 1840 to Troy, Perry Co, IN, where Thomas died in 1843. I have a great deal of information on their descendants. I have a copy of The Cutler Memorial and Genealogical History by Nahum S. Cutler (1889) and have been attempting to confirm, correct, and add to the information therein. I will be happy to share my findings.

Surnames: Lynn, Maguire Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YRB.2ACE/892.1 Message Board Post: I don't have information about Butler Cemetery but I have some information about one of the Lynn families from Minerva Township, Essex County, NY, which may be helpful to you. I saw today your earlier inquiries in Mar 2001 about "Carrie" Lynn and that her parents might have been Michael Lynn and Eliza Maguire Lynn. An Eliza Ann Maguire was a sister of my great-great-grandfather, Thomas Maguire Jr. Eliza was born in Essex County, NY in 1836. She died in 1925. She married Michael Lynn (Born 1827; died 1909.) This information came from my great-aunt Marie who sometime prior to 1969 made a trip to Minerva (Olmsteadville), researched the Maguire family, met distant family members, and wrote up her research. Last spring I obtained the 1850 and 1860 census records to substantiate Aunt Marie's research. The 1860 census, on p. 224 for Essex County, Minerva Township, lists Michael Lynn age 25 a farmer, born in Ireland Eliza " age 21 born in NY Lizzie age 11 months born in NY. In addition, Aunt Marie's research shows information about the settlement of Eliza's father's estate, and that in both 1882 and 1890, Eliza Lynn was living in Minerva. I seem to remember quite a few Lynn families in the 1860 census in Minerva Township. If you are not yet certain that this Lynn family might be your ancesters you may find a later census that includes your gg-grandmother's name with this family. If you are sure of it, please contact me, because I have additional information about Eliza's parents and brothers and sisters. Regards, Ann

They are buried in the Upper Jay Cemetery as is John's father George. Their children George and Emerill (Uncle George and Aunt Em to my father, etc.) are buried near them. Neither had ever married. Uncle George was an Adirondack guide for many years and Aunt Em taught school in somewhere in the area of Upper Jay. After he retired, he returned to Upper Jay and shared the family house with her. It stands on the remnants of the former Rt. 9 directly across from the Ausable River between Upper Jay and Keene. Melissa (Lissie or Lizzie to my grandmother), Aunt Melissa to my father, married James Cutler. She lived into the 1940s (in the Cutler house on Rt. 9 closer to Adams Center.) with her unmarried daughter Frances (Fanny) Cutler. There is a mysterious "hard lot" connected with her marriage. I have some theories but nothing of substance. One daughter, Pamelia (Millie) died as a girl in a tragic accident. Both Aunt Melissa and Cousin Millie are buried in the Upper Jay cemetery. I think Uncle Jim is buried there too, but the James Cutler grave I found is closer to the others, not with them. There were other children, but my father could not remember who. You do not mention a sister called Bell or Bella. (She had a fancier name, of course, but what?) She married Jerome Kennedy (called Rome), and they lived with their children (who?) in a large house nearer yet to Adams Center on Rt. 9 My grandmother, Frances Marian, born in 1865, left Essex County. She married Francis Eli Parish/Parrish in 1892. She had four children: Eugene Lambert, Miriam Caroline, Francis Henry, and, much the youngest, my father Carroll Ernest Parrish. I can give you dates and details about all of these if you wish. Frances Marian kept a pocket diary in 1887 when she was 21 and I have gleaned some facts from that with my father's occasional help. (He visited Essex Cty only once, when he was 14.) Hope this helps. How did you get your lists of children? I have been trying to find these. Ann
