If I'm out of line then please forgive me.While I was gone on my research trip I found a picture of two of my great uncles taken in a group photo from St Joseph's Orphanage in Ogdensburg NY. I have posted it to my page in hopes that maybe someone somewhere might find some family of their own one day. I have also redesigned my opening page as a tribute to the disaster that occurred. Just scroll down to the end of the page and you will find the link to enter the genealogy section. Once there follow the Yaddow family links to find the new photos. It seems all the Yaddow boys were sent to this orphanage. One of the sisters to these boys (Mary) worked at the orphanage at the time that the boys were there. The girls, however were sent to an orphanage in Quebec somewhere. Does anyone have any idea how I would find a list of the possible orphanages that they may have been in? Thanks for any help. There were other Sherman immigrants in the colonial era but from what I've seen the RI group was the most prolific. Also, there were many RI natives who went to NY after the Revolution. There is a Sherman genealogy in my local library which I will check for you next time I go. I have quite a few Sherman lines both from Philip as well as one from his distant cousin, John Sherman of Watertown.

Hi Fellow Researchers, I am making a very quick trip to Essex next week in light of the cheaper airfares. Can anyone recommend a place to stay in Essex? Mainly I will be in Elizabethtown, since that is the county seat and the records I need will be there. Are there any bed and breakfasts there or nearby? I know Lake Placid has all the major hotels, but I thought it would be more fun to stay local and take in my surroundings. Thanks! Vicki
