Her family immigrated in the late 1830's. I know they settled in the Minerva, New York area. Mary married Matthias Garvey around 1850. Mary had a sister Margaret who married Daniel Lynch. Daniel did a good deal of surveying for the town of Minerva and is mentioned in the towns history. I do not know if Mary and Margaret had any brothers but it is likely. Though Mary and Matthias moved west and ended up in South Dakota, most of their children ended up back in the Mineville area. In one town there is supposed to be a smoke stack with the name Garvey on it. Charles Garvey, Matthias and Mary's oldest son, ran a diamond drilling business at the turn of the century.

My ancestor is Lot Hadaway (Mar 14, 1788 - Dec 1, 1881) and his wife Arathusa (June 17, 1801 - Aug. 7, 1854). They are buried in the Ironville cemetery, Crown Point, NY. Lot was in the US Navy, because there is a marker on his grave. Their children are Huldah (no married name) (Dec 13, 1826 - Mar 18, 1862), Sara m. Henry Clough (my ancestors), Franklin (b July 27, 1831), June (Mar 28, 1834 - Jan 17, 1843), Mary( Nov 20, 1836 - Jan 17, 1843), and Susan (b. Mar 19, 1840) m. Chapman. That's all I know. Presumably there are descendants from Franklin and Susan, but I don't KNOW that. I also don't know where Lot and Arathusa were born. Does anything sound familiar? Barb

In a message dated 10/14/01 8:47:25 AM, [email protected] writes: << I would also like it confirmed that there was a section of Willsborough called Brookfield. >> Hi Joanne, Brookfield was the earliest settlement in the area. The actual settlement is just about gone except as a rural crossroads; the cemetery contains some very early 19th century stones and in more contemporary times a Baptist Church had been built in front of the cemetery, however this too is gone. This area is located in the western part of the Town of Essex, about 2 miles west of the village of Boquet and Rt. 22. The late town historian, Albert Hayward, collected a great deal on the early Brookfield settlers. Mine were the Sheldons. Brian Tabor - Northampton, MA.
I saw the Lilja name in the Cavalry Cemetery and wondered if I could ask... I am searching for info on the following people witht he last name Lilja: One child of Per Erik Glans and Kajsa Stina Schnitt was Margret Kristina Glans who married Karl Antonius Lilja: Margret Kristina, born Oct. 29, 1866. Margaret Kristina Glans later married Karl Antonius Lilja (Nov. 18, 1888) Karl was born Jan. 17, 1867, in Kvillinge, Ostergotlands lan. He was a farmer in Langby 2, Forsa, Gavleborgs lan. Their children Karl Olof Jan. 9, 1889 Johan Adolf June 1, 1890 Ernst August April 26, 1893 Karl Antonius Lilja emmigrated in 1893 to the USA, his wife and children followed in 1894. >From a book called: Sveriges slaktregister, 1975,Forsa..I was warned that there are some errors in this book, so the records should be checked against town, etc records. (I have found that records agree with Emmigration records I have found for Per Erik Glans and his second wife Carin Carsldotter ,daughter of KArl Lax (1880 from Stockholm to NYC) Margret Glans's father was Pehr Erik Glans (born Soderlund) who was probably my great grandfather (Peter Glantz in America) Glantz/Glans means shining, lustre and is a name taken by a soldier. I have found all kinds of connections..between Per Erik's story and my Peter Glantz of MEriden, Ct. story. A very nice genealogist from Sweden gave me this info about Per Erik and his children. Now I am trying to trace them to the USA and I have discovered that there are lots of people with the name Lilja! Several children from his 2 marriages and his second wifes 2 marriages, survived and came to the USA. I am trying to unravel all the names. I habe a feeling that PEr Erik had relatives here, when he came in 1880, to help him get from NYC, to Port Chester, N.Y....to Meriden, Ct. Does anyone recognize any of these names? Thanks so much for any info you may have. Deb Glantz Hanna [email protected] [email protected]

I am seeking information on Joseph Robins and wife, Elizabeth, also called Betsey. They supposedly came from Killingly, CT to Bridport, VT in 1793 and in 1806 went to Brookfield, which I believe was a part of Willsborough, Essex Co., NY. Does anyone have any information on these people and their four daughters, Polly, Arsenath, Sally, and Betsey? After Joseph's death in 1817, his widow returned to Bridport, VT. In 1838 she started applying for a pension. She finally received one, but I believe she must have died before 1840 as she doesn't show in the index to people in that census who were receiving pensions at that time. I would also like it confirmed that there was a section of Willsborough called Brookfield. Thanks, Joann Nichols [email protected]
