    1. [NYE] Yemussee=Genesee
    2. Hi Brauck and list, Thanks so much for your reply. I think you're on to something there and what I thought was a Y could be a G. I have seen a capital G written as we write a small g only larger, but didn't even think of that. I should have. This is definitely open on the top and has a tail below the other letters, but most of the handwriting in the bible is the same handwriting as if it was copied from another bible or record. So the person who wrote it could have mistaken a G written as we write a small g only larger, as a Y. I will certainly follow-up on this angle and try to check records for Genesee. If Wm. and Sophia McKenzie were married in Genesee they soon came back to Essex Co. to have a son Roderick in 1813 and a son William in 1816. Wm. did like to move around though as they were in IN by 1820 and OH by 1830, where they stayed. Thanks again for your interesting input. I appreciate it very much. Carol Harrison

    1. [NYE] Is there a Yemussee, NY?
    2. Hi everyone, Was or is there a place named Yemussee or Yemussu in Essex Co. or anywhere else in NY? My ancestor, William McKenzie of Keene, Essex Co. married Sophia ROGERS or ACKLEY in Yemussee or Yemussu, NY in 1809 according to the bible record of a granddaughter. The place finder of my genealogy program doesn't come up with anything, but possibly the name was changed or the place ceased to exist. Will greatly appreciate any information anyone can provide. Thank you. Carol Harrison Torrance, CA

    3. Just a wild guess, Carol...and I am assuming that you are looking at a handwriting you're not certain about. Once when trying to decipher a handwritten document proper name, I kept staring at the apparent "Y". The "Y" was a stylized "G", in fact!! If your "Y" is actually a "G", then you are probably looking at Genesee, NY...south and almost as far west in the state as you can get. Just thinkin' out loud, of course. Good luck...and let us know what you find out. Brauck. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 01, 2002 10:36 PM Subject: [NYE] Is there a Yemussee, NY? > Hi everyone, > > Was or is there a place named Yemussee or Yemussu in Essex Co. or anywhere > else in NY? 1. [NYE] Moylan /Donahue connection
    2. Would like to hear from anyone with a Moylan/Donahue connection. Jeffrey Donahue (see my previous message) had a cousin named Moylan who had a family in Essex Co. The Moylans had a land grant in Nebraska and went to Liberty, NE about 1884. The only Moylan names I have are Margaret and Mary. Apparently after the parents and a brother died Margaret stayed on the farm in NE and Mary and another sister went to Denver. The above information came from a daughter of Jeffrey. 1. [NYE] Jeffrey from Ireland and Upstate NY
    2. My ancestor Jeffrey Donahue was born in Tipperary, Ireland Dec 22, 1853. He had, according to his daughter, one brother Thomas. Their father had a second wife Winifred in 1873. Thomas Donahue apparently came to the US before Jeffrey, settling in Mineville, Essex Co, NY. Jeffrey married Harriet Vokes in 1873 and they came to America soon afterward, settling in Mineville/Witherbee, NY. they were in Essex Co by Sept 1874 when their daughter Harriet was born. The 1905 census says Jeffery and Harriet were citizens. Thomas left Essex Co and settled in New York City where he raised a family. Jeffrey worked on the railroad and died in 1914/1918 in NY. He is buried in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery, Essex Co, NY. The children of Jeffrey and Harriet Vokes Donahue were Thomas, Harriet, Dennis, William, Mary, Katherine, James, Michael, Jeffrey and Helen. I'm looking for connections and information on Jeffrey's parents. 1. [NYE] Conners, Burns, Bigalow, Maginn/McGinn
    2. While going through some of my mother's papers my sisters and I came across a note from Mrs. Ellis Conners of Plattsburgh (written in 1971). The note was updating Mother on the health of her aunt, Margaret Bigalow of Port Henry and said that "my husband is a cousin of Margaret (3rd I believe)". Can anyone establish the actual link between Margaret Bigalow and Ellis Conners? Margaret was born Margaret Burns in 1876 and died in Plattsburgh in 1972. She married Mark R. Bigalow, a photographer in Port Henry, in 1921. We know that Uncle Mark and Aunt Margaret were cousins but we're not sure how--I always assumed it was through Mark's mother, Alice Maginn/Mcginn. Mark was my grandfather's youngest brother. Any leads appreciated.
