    3. We are going to have to start with what is known. With Rachael, one of my most difficult ancestress because she died at age thirty-four in 1864, I have only the following U.S. records: An 1831 ship record for "Rosene Longfeld"--found in a book about New York arrivals at the Milwaukee Public Library; The 1850 census for Buffalo for "Regina Reibold" The 1860 census for Milwaukee for "Rachel Reibold" A marriage record in the St. Louis Catholic Church in Buffalo for "Regina" Langenfeld, daughter of Petri Langenfeld and Barbara Feite and Regina's husband, Martin Reibold; A baptism record for her daughter, Emma, in Lockport with "Rachel Langfeld" as the mother An 1864 death record for "Regina Reibold" in Milwaukee; Four marriage records--one for Elizabeth (mother, Rachel Reibold", two for Emma (one civil; one church; mother "Regina Reibold", both in Milwaukee), and one for Martin in La Crosse (mother misspelled as "Virgena")--these were three of her children. In 1870, probably to make a blended family or for some other reason, Rachael's husband listed his second wife as the mother of all of Rachael's children in a Wisconsin birth registry, which has since been memorialized online, wiping out my ggggrandmother's identity! In addition, there is no record I could find in which Rachael's youngest daughter, Sara, ever lists anyone but her stepmother as her mother--but Sara was born when Rachael was alive and Sara's stepmother still lived in Germany. Once Rachael's marriage record was found, we got her whole family. We were also able to track her brothers. So now, might we list the records you have for Maria Paul? Are there marriage records for her children? Where is she in the census reports? What is the last known religion? What are Maria's children's names? Are there witnesses to major events--such as baptisms? Both of Rachael's grandmothers turned out to be named "Elizabeth," exactly as the name of her first daughter. All of these things are clues. It took my five years to locate Rachael's place of origin and to get her extended family in place. So tell us all about Maria.
