As the "caretaker" of the Concordia Cemetery web site, I have the following news to report from the Concordia Cemetery Association: The new volunteer season for Concordia Cemetery has begun... Those in the vicinity who care about the cemetery and the state of their ancestors' final resting place are encouraged to volunteer... Specifically, the Association seeks volunteers for their Saturday work groups which meet at the cemetery every Saturday at 9am until November. Address: 438 Walden @ Sycamore... There will be a Memorial Day service conducted at the cemetery on Monday May 30 at 11 am; all are welcome to attend. Dave Yearke attended last year's event and contributed some marvelous photos to the web site. I hope someone will attend this year and send me some updated photos to add to the web site. The CC Association has received New York State vandalism funds to support the restoration of toppled monuments; the restorations will begin in early June with an expected 60 monuments to be re-erected on repaired foundations by August! (I know that one of my ancestors has such a toppled monument...) This is a continuing project with hopes for more repairs in the upcoming years.. The Association is also seeking a grant to replace the missing wrought iron section signage and the large lichgate over the front drive. This will be slightly different from the original as it will swing open for truck access. The Association has already replaced the missing sections of fencing at the gate itself. The Association has also applied to the local United Way to be included in their Day of Caring Project which, if the application is successful, would provide 30 volunteers for a three hour blitz.
