    3. Henry and Mary Gottlip Texter came to Amherst from Germany in 1854. Does any one have an idea of what port most of the German people came into at that time? Mine came from the Black Forest area, embarked Le Havre, and arrived in October 1854 on the Ontario in NYC. However, Rotterdam, and Hamburg were also big embarkation ports. R
