Hi All: Would anyone know which church Herman J. Miller was pastor of in Buffalo in 1916? I just received a copy of my Grandmother's Baptismal Certificate. It had the Pastor, but there was no church listed. Johnna St Clair
There was a Reverend Miller at St. Ann's on Broadway for a short period between 1903 and 1929 but I don't know the exact dates. This from an incomplete index to Donohue's History of the Diocese of Buffalo. Johnna, In the 1916 Buffalo city directory, Rev. Herman F. Miller is listed as the pastor of the English Lutheran Vhurch of the Redeemer. His residence address is given as 68 Roehrer Ave. However, in the Church section of the directory the English Lutheran Church of the Redeemer is listed on Elmwood Ave corner of Highland, and with a different pastor. This address is several miles from Roehrer Ave. Also in the Church section, the Church of the Resurrection is listed at Genesee and Doat Sts., with Rev. Herman F. Miller as pastor. This address is quite close to Roehrer Ave. Mu conclusion is that the directory compiler got the church name wrong when he called at Rev. Miller's home, and that your Grandmothe was baptized at the Church of the Resurrection. Also you or someone read Rev. Miller's middle initial incorrectly. Any questions? George
