    3. I'd add that the Declaration of Intention and Petition for Naturalization are documents which can hold a greeat deal of genealogical information, depending on the date and court used. They're held by the court which process the naturalization or by the national Archives in that region, depending on date. The Declaration of Intention was the first document filed, and many people did not complete the process by filing the Petition for Naturalization. But even if an individual didn't become a citizen, he or she may have filed a Declaration. The third document, the Certificate of Citizenship, was the one given to the new citizen. Many people carefully saved these and passed them down to descendants. They contain very little genealogical information. BUT they do contain the Petition Number and which court processed the naturalization. If you have a copy of a certificate, you have the information needed to obtain the other two documents.
