    3. Can someone tell me what town HAMBURG FAIRGROUNDS is in? I have an old yellowed newspaper clipping, no date or publication name, but pictures several men at a G.O.P outing at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. Those pictured are: Benjamin C. KAISER of the Republican County Committee, George T. VANDERMEULEN, clerk of the surrogate's court, Senator Charles A. FREIBERG, candidate for nomination for sheriff, Dan McCARTHY of Tonawanda, Sheriff Charles F. ZIMMERMAN and Charles E. ROESCH, candidate for nomination for mayor, Councilman John S. McGOVERN, and Mayor Frank X. SCHWAB. The DAN McCARTHY listed above is my ancestor & he was also known as "JACK McCARTY" but his birth name was OSCAR OTTO COTHRELL. I am searching for more info. about Dan & his wife Ebba. I cannot locate them on any census records & I think that they both probably died in Erie Co.in the late 1940's/ early 1950's & are probably buried in the county. They owned a restaurant & night club called the Shamrock Inn on River Road near Tonawanda in the 1940's. I think the restaurant was originally named "Grandma's Kitchen". I wish to find their death dates so I can send for their death certificates. Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks! Pat O'Sullivan Corona

    3. The Hamburg Fairgrounds sits in the space bounded by Southpark Ave, Clark Street, McKinley Parkway and Quinby Drive. I grew up 1 mile from the fairgrounds and always looked forward to the 1st Friday in August when the fair would start. I can remember going with my mom and grandmother to enter exhibits in the woman's building. Baking for my 4-H entries and buying elephant ears and salt water taffy. I could watch the fireworks from my bedroom mirror each night. Te fair each year was the highlight of my summer. The end of the fair always marked the end of summer and time to return to school. I got my 1st kiss on the Tilt A Whirl when I was 16. Alot of fond memories in my life were associated with the fair.
