On my Jewish side of the family I have hit a brick wall, then hit it several more times. My great, great grandmother, three sons and one daughter came to the US around 1891. Another daughter was born in NYC around 1892. The first time I see them in Buffalo is in the 1899 City Directory as COHEN. They are Russian Jews who lived on the East Side of Buffalo, in what was commonly called the Jefferson Shul. (Could be Russia, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, etc.) By around 1910 everyone had changed their name to MACON. Unfortunately, my Jewish side of the family did not talk much about their past to people like my father; they were very concerned about fitting in. I have found their burial plots by walking the Jewish cemeteries on Pine Ridge Heritage. I can tell by the cemetery which synagogue they possibly belonged to, however, cannot find a way to access any records or if any our even available. So, this is just a general plea for help. Seeing these ancestors are my surname-sake, I really want to discover their heritage. Can anyone offer any type of suggestion as to where to look next? Thanks Guy
