Unfortunately, I'm Catholic and know of the Catholic parishes in the Tonawandas. Not sure about churches of those denominations in the other Tonawandas. I know of Lutheran churches in NT. Not sure how old they might be. An historical book was put together at the time of NT's centennial back in 1997. I'll see if there's anything about the churches from that time in what is now NT. So in other words, NOT Catholic. Can you help me on this? Doug "M. Brenzel" <brenzelmf@adelphia.net> wrote: What religion were they? This will certainly help since there were not very many churches in those days. Also, I'd like to let you know that North Tonawanda was actually part of Tonawanda at that time. NT split off from Tonawanda shortly after that and became part of the Town of Wheatfield for a short time. I do know the family religion. Thanks, Doug George Richmond wrote: >Looking for the birth records of: >William A. You will have to find a church record, which requires that you know the family religion. Also, note, that there are actually three Tonawandas in New York, all nearby. Thesouthernmost is the Town of Tonawanda, which is just north of and borders the city of Buffalo. Next to the north is the City of Tonawanda, surrounded on the west, south and east by the Town. Its northern boundary is the Erie Canal, which is also the county line. In Niagara County across the canal is the city of North Tonawanda. So you really have to look for churches in three different communities!
