Hi George! You are right I 'don't realize the immense scope of such an operation' . Still hopeful that it happens soon. I think that there are plenty of other projects scrapbooks, early obit indices, images and other such things that could be worked on instead of a census which we can read at our own leisure... I suspect that there are many items sitting in envelopes and boxes that sit there because there are not enough volunteers to do the job... and if you have not tried to do such an index, I do think that it would be a good exercise for you.... finding YOUR person on a page where you are EXPECTING to find the NAME is vastly different than reading and writing whatever you find.... a simple all name index of a scrapbook of typed documents could take weeks or months of a person's time.... and I do mean READ the census pages at your own leisure, not merely use an index... the older the census, the more chance you will find OTHER family members as part of the READ.... I personally think that the total dependency on an INDEX which is created by people reading a document that is VERY hard TO READ in the best of environments is NOT a good thing... have you checked the gen web to see if there are any of the townships read or if they are looking for a second reader/transcriber... if not, then to the usgenweb project with ya.... and see what is in the works there... ----- Original Message ----- From: zona.himmelsbach@juno.com<mailto:zona.himmelsbach@juno.com> To: NYERIE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:NYERIE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 20, 2005 12:08 PM Subject: Re: [NYERIE] 1892 Census of Erie County Hi George!
