some might consider this a profit making endeavor but i will say that those who participate in the publishing of their local histories consider them a wonderful resource and a wonderful means to promote local history.....and i have seen surname presentations as well....... here then a searchable site for books that have been published by arcadia publishing that have an emphasis on IMAGES of specific areas and subjects and family groups... You do not have to PURCHASE these items... I am certain they are available with interlibrary loan MOST ARE NOT indexed and run just over a 100 pages so here a search page: http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SRCHM&Store_Code=arcadia<http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SRCHM&Store_Code=arcadia> notice that there is a STATE search....as well as a keyword... NOW, i have found that if you do get a hit, that there is not a means to OPEN and SEE a more detailed description of the book by clicking DETAILS... so ,while on that page, slide down to the bottom and notice the search box FIND YOUR CITY... enter in a city name, and then see the visual display of what areas have been covered and secondary links to the specific areas.... (gee, even miles displayed from the city you entered... AGAIN, I am not promoting the business. I AM PROMOTING the INFORMATION THAT IS available and which you might not otherwise know about.... and after all, there is an isbn and interlibrary loan....
so here is a search page: http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?screen=SRCHM&Store_Code=arcadia I'll second this note. This website has some excellent books. Your own library will probably have any of these that relate to your area. If there is a problem with interlibrary loan in your area, use the isbn # and do a search at a bookseller website. Some of these offer a detailed description and/or sample pages you can see. Georgianne --------------------------------- Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! Yahoo! Netrospective: 100 Moments of the Web
