    1. Cost of Death Certificate
    2. I was just on the City of Buffalo vital record fee page, put out by the State of NY. Am I reading it correctly that if I want a death record that is over 50 years old, it would cost $142? Am I missing something? The person died in Buffalo and I had planned to send for the death record. Susanne

    3. I just ordered some death certificates from the Vital Statistics office in Buffalo. If the person whose death certificate you want, has been dead at least fifty years, died in the city limits of Buffalo, and you know the exact date of death, you can send a money order for ten dollars with a written request giving your particulars. If a search is involved I am not sure of the fees... It helps if you can state a relationship to the deceased although it is not necessary. If you state that it is for genealogical purposes you will not need a certified copy. The cost is ten dollars per certificate. If you need more than one of course the cost is more. The service is fairly quick and I have not had a problem. If they didn't have a certificate on file they alerted me and also advised me if the fifty year limit had not been met. Good Luck... 3. No, there has to be a mistake, a typo or something. I'm not sure of the exact cost.... But I was in to for my 3rd great grandfather's who died sometime between 1893 and 1900. I did not have an exact date or year. The cost, which included the charge for the 7 year search and the charge for copy of the death certificate was $42 total. Absolutely not would it cost 100 and sum dollars, unless there were a lot of years to search, and I don't know if they will search at all, if you can't give them a time frame.

    3. The site is NOT well worded(maybe on purpose). The cost to SEARCH, if and ONLY if you do NOT have an EXACT date is as below and includes the cost of the uncertified copy. If you have a Year, but not a date or month, you are subject only to the 1-3 years search cost. I don't know what the charge is if you have a year and a month but not a date. Probably no more than just the cost of the copy. The cost is not according to how long ago they died, but how many years of records the clerk has to search. 1 - 3 years $ 22.00 4 - 10 years $ 42.00 11 - 20 years $ 62.00 21 - 30 years $ 82.00 31 - 40 years $102.00 41 - 50 years $122.00 51 - 60 years $142.00 61 - 70 years $162.00 If you have an EXACT date, the uncertified copy will cost, and I may be outdated on this so don't quote me, to my memory, $12 dollars. When contacting them, you must state that it is for genealogical purposes, and what relation you are to the person you are searching. You may have to send a copy of your drivers license if you are sending for this info by mail I've always just gone down town, so I'm not sure what they want when it's requested in writing. Good luck in your search. Amy

    3. Wow, it really went up as I paid $10 each about 3 years ago. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amy L.
