I have used InterLibrary "Loans" to have reels of micro-filmed newspapers brought in for me to peruse. There *is* a small rental fee involved, so maybe InterLibrary Loan is not the correct term. Carol, do you know what this rental service is called? Leslie (Bridges) Kohler
***I stand corrected... you are right that ILL can be used to borrow reels of microfilm, and some libraries may charge for doing this. I had the impression that the person was expecting ILL to provide copies of the articles, but I may have been mistaken about that. I said what I did because we often get requests like this: "I need a copy of the obituary of my great-grandfather. He died in 1898 in Chicago." We have to explain to them that they first need to work with a Reference Librarian to identify the newspapers from Chicago covering that time period, and then request reels of a specific title--or if they want just a copy of the obit, to either get a citation or specify the exact date. Sorry I wasn't clearer. Interlibrary loan is the right term for both services: requesting a photocopy of a specific article (for which you supply title, exact date, etc.) and requesting a specific reel of microfilm (such as two weeks of the Buffalo News). Hope this helps!
