Ooops - think I just sent a blank msg before this one. (Keyboard - not me! lol) Re: beef on weck? When I recently wrote about my visit to the BECPL - think I also told you I had my first beef on weck during my time in NY. Also shared that in the middle of all my tombstone digital photos - there's a photo of my beef on weck sales receipt! Yuuuuuumm. Sure don't have those here in northern California! :) Someone said we were getting off to the side here re: all the food - but I agree that this is part of the "local history" for our Erie County lives or ancestors. May I toss in another thing about the area I wish I had here too? Wegmans grocery stores! I stayed in a motel where I had a mini-refrigerator, a microwave and a wireless connection. What else would I need? lol Stayed in Amherst, so I could do both my Niagara County genealogy and my trips down into Buffalo. Just off the beltway (if you call it that there! lol) so could easily get back to the airport too. Well - got my rations over at Wegmans. A BIG DEAL to make beef on weck there too. Have a couple of photos of the counter and people - slicing the beef, the sign, etc. All part of "being there", right? (Also went to the Niagara County Fair while there and had the best piece of corn (white and yellow kernals) I'd had in my life --- but now I'm REALLY vearing off topic for this group!) I'll tell you though - all this talk of beef on weck is making me WANT ONE! :) Deb
Okay, y'all are KILLING me! I'm down here in Northern Virginia (outside DC), and I seldom get to go back to Buffalo, so I never get to satisfy my beef on weck cravings. (My husband, from N.J., is a convert as well.) But now after all this talk, I can practically TASTE it, but unfortunately, no . . .
