Does anyone remember which religious order had a convent on Main Street, near Youngs Road in Williamsville? An office park is now on some of the property. The convent building is still there but probably not for long. What’s left of the nuns’ property is being developed. There is a “shrine” still on Main Street at the very front of the office park. Where did they move to? Mary  

My wife was a member of that community in the late 60s before she realized that Religious Life was not her cup of tea. The Order was the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Divine Child, and the convent was Regina Coeli Acres. They were sometimes referred to as the Blue Franciscans (they wore a blue habit, where most Franciscans wear brown). The vocations have been dwindling for many years, and the Community became too small to support that huge campus. The Sisters merged with the Franciscan Community on Reist St. in Williamsville when the Main St. convent and property was sold.
