    3. As for volunteering to help convert physical records to digital when you're not with the physical records: There are two steps to this process. First, the paper or film images must be scanned. Second, the data itself must be transcribed into spreadsheets or databases so it can be indexed. I'm active in several groups doing Eastern European and Russian genealogy. Sometimes the LDS has microfilmed these records. If so, they scan them (with fast commercial scanners) on to CDs, We then distribute these CDs to our volunteers to transcribe and index. Also, in one group, several of us have copies of census records for our families, but of course other families are on the same pages. We scan the images and send them to others who can translate and index them. So, it would be quite possible for someone outside Buffalo to assist in converting the records, once someone in Buffalo did the initial scans. (If there WERE records, of course <g>.) 3. Has anyone ever pursued digitizing the record of Father Bakers orphans. So many of us had ancestors placed at Our Lady of Victory but records seem to be unavailable, even after 125 years. This has created a dead end for me. Any suggestions??
