Ruth, Amazing the stories that we each can probably tell! Thanks for sharing yours! Since there hasn't been much activity on NYERIE, I've been enjoying everyone's little stories. I know we all have one or six! After my aunt died, my father and I were going through her photo's, we came across one that had on the back "John Karl's 1st wife". John Karl was my Dad's grandfather. Dad had a fit because no one told him Grandpa Karl was married twice. Thinking his only sister kept it from him. My Dad passed before I got into genealogy. That particular John Karl turned out to be his grandfather's uncle. Then I added four others. For me, the "name thing" is on the German French side, including those "ugh" middle names. But we sure get excited when we figure it out, don't we? Ruth At 12:55 PM 1/19/2010 -0500, you wrote: >All of my paternal grandfather's sisters were named Mary with different >middle names.
