    1. [NYERIE] List of Street Changes, Buffalo, Erie County, New York
    2. Kay Wright
    3. The following site is useful for locating street name changes in Buffalo. It shows German St. changed to Sherman; German Alley to Eurika, later to Trinity. http://wnyroots.tripod.com/index-street-changes.html

    1. Re: [NYERIE] German Street
    2. Val, Thanks for that. I've been exploring the various directories and such from the link you gave. It's a great link. It appears German Street was changed to Delaware Place about 1853 or 1854. HOWEVER, German Street is listed as running between Delaware and Virginia - and appears to be about where Trinity Place is now. But, that is no where near Jefferson. There is a German Alley, but that never intersects Jefferson either. Here is the property description from the deed I have: the certain piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the town of Black Rock County of Erie and State of New York being a part of Outer Lot 22 and according to a map of subdivisions of part of said lot 22 made for said (Wm. W. Smith) it is distinguished as Lot 40 and bounded as follows: beginning 255 feet easterly from the east line of Jefferson Street, in the Southerly line of German Street, thence southerly at right angle with German Street 150 feet, thence easterly parallel with German Street 50 feet, thence northerly at right angle with said German Street to said southerly line of German Street, then on said line westerly 50 feet to the place of beginning. I've gone back and forth between various directories and online maps, but not getting much of anywhere. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks, Jennifer In a message dated 6/24/2009 1:12:31 P.M. 1. Re: [NYERIE] German Street
    2. Russ, This may be it. The 1894 map shows Handel St. and Berlin in that area. Berlin must have become German which became Pershing. The 1866 map shows Handel and Berlin also. the deed references Outer Lot 22 which has been subdivided by one William W. Smith apparently and the referenced property is identified as lot 40 within that. Perhaps the street was initially named German before 1844 when my ancestor bought the property, then when Black Rock joined Buffalo the name could have been changed because there was already a German St. in Buffalo. Seems like a lot of changes for one poor little street. Thanks for the input, Jennifer In a message dated 6/24/2009 3:43:06 P.M. 2. Hello to all, I'm hoping someone may be able to identify where German Street was in Buffalo. I'm not having any luck with any of the online maps. I have a copy of a deed dated 1847 which identifies a property at Jefferson Avenue and German Street in the town of Black Rock. Since this is before the Black Rock was absorbed by the city of Buffalo, I'm gathering this refers to the original town (township) of Black Rock. Does anyone have any ideas where this property might be located? Thank you for your help. Jennifer **************Make your summer sizzle with fast and easy recipes for the grill. 3. Looking for a newspaper look up concerning a robbery in Buffalo, NY at possibly Sattler's store about 1952-1953.  Photograph of apprehended suspect by unarmed citizen won prize and was published again about one year later.  Suspect was rumored to be hospitalized afterwards...photo includes policeman, robber being held by the throat, robber's gun, and unidentified ... persons.  Would like to identify everyone in photo and have a copy of the newspaper article (transcription) if this is available from microfilm at the library.

    3. Thank you all so very much for your informative replies and additional websites to visit. No wonder I couldn't find Forks in the places I checked. I realized later it was silly to look for a city council if it was a town, but I guess since Forks was an area, trying to narrow my search with town council would not have worked either. I actually don't know yet if I am related to the family, but knowing what Forks is will help me understand better the records I am finding. Cheektagowa is familiar, as it is showing up on quite a few of the census records I have been studying. Thanks so much again for the explanations and links.

    3. Hello. I have my great uncle's death certificate, it says he worked for the American Radiator Co for over 30 years. He last worked in 1928. he was a plumber. I know the Company is part of the Standard Sanitary Co. now I managed to find a customer service number in case they have any records but with no answer He was Thomas Sheerin, born 1865 in Ireland, came to America in 1886 and settled in Erie, Buffalo. He died in 1932 Does anyone have any idea how I may find any work record for him? Thank you, Barbara in England
