Did you try http://fultonhistory.com? New content is added often, and while the focus is much older papers, I have seen articles for even more recent. Here's the link to the page: http://www.ci.buffalo.ny.us/Home/City_Departments/City_Clerk/RecordsManageme nt There are numerous CDs containing the death indexes, the city has them networked on a few workstations at the records center for searching by date of death. -----Original Message----- From: nyerie-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nyerie-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of JanetB Sent: Friday, July 10, 2009 3:59 PM To: nyerie@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYERIE] Death Index Records on CD << The City of Buffalo Inactive Records & Research Facility has death index records from 1852-1944 on CD's. HI Hilary, Glad to see you are still working on your sister-in-law's family history. The Antozzi's are related to the Clerget's through marriage. Ceasar Antozzi had married a Clerget. I sent you pictures and info a couple of years ago. We lost Cousin Leonard Danna at 96 years old. He was fun to talk to and he related stories. He started writing about his family in a notebook and his daughter is typing everything. Would love to know how your family search is going with the Clerget family. You can reach me at bjantoz@gmail.com. Take care, Jeri Antozzi On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 4:36 PM, <hilary@mymishpocha.net> wrote: > Hi, all. > I'm helping my wonderful sister-in-law research her family. Many thanks to Kay Wright for the contact information for the Director of the Archives. This is just the kind of advice that I needed. This is a great list. Thank you, Mary Ann
Hi, Donna, If you get any positive responses, would you either let me know, or ask them if they'd be willing to do an additional search? I'm looking for a death record 1859-1860. ( recently posted a query asking if those records even existed, and people said maybe, at the Inactive Records Center.) I'm also going to phone them today, and ask if anything can be arranged for non-local researchers. . . . If anyone is going to the City of Buffalo Inactive Records Center on River Rock Drive? I don't live in New York and so I need some assistance. Could someone help me find a death record for: Name: Russel BABB Died: 12 Jul 1929 Cause: He apparently fell off a boat in the lake and drowned. I would like to prove or disprove this. Thanks Donna kinshipmatters@twmi.rr.com
I presume the church records would include burial records. They would not contain death records. The City of Buffalo Inactive Records & Research Facility has death index records from 1852-1944 on CD's. Check www.city-buffalo.com , under leadership go the city departments, click on City Clerk to see a side bar offering info on this facility.
The phone number for this facility is....(716)874-6401....Perhaps you could call them to find out about out of town services. As George says they are most helpful but staffing is low. The city of Buffalo Inactive Records Center on River Rock Drive has death indexes from 1852 to 1944. You may need someone local to perform the lookup there, as they are lightly staffed (but very helpful.) "Buffalo Plains" is shown in an 1866 Buffalo Atlas here: http://www.historicmapworks.com/Map/US/38348/ -it encompasses North Buffalo and University Heights. In 1881 this area was part of Buffalo, so you may find it at the Inactive Records Center. Trying to ascertain the wherabouts of James Todd PRICE, who in 1895 left his second wife and seems to have disappeared. I have found the following from 1890: Buffalo, New York Directory, 1890 Name: James T. Price Location 2: 252 Breckenridge Business Name: Buffalo Polish Co. Occupation: pres Year: 1890 City: Buffalo State: NY I am hoping that someone may have access to directories from 1894-96 forward so I can see if he remained in Buffalo. My goal is to find where and when he died. Thanks in advance for your help. Greg
Hi, all. I'm helping my wonderful sister-in-law research her family. (OK -- I'm doing all the work, but love to share it! <grin>) Is there any way I can get Buffalo-area death records from 1859-1860, and 1870-1880? I know her great-grandfather was baptized at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in 1859 in "Buffalo Plains". Her ggf died 1859-1860 (between his son's baptism and the 1860 Census), and her ggm died between the 1870 and 1880 censuses. I checked the FHC catalogue, and while they do have records from St.Joseph's for that time, there are no death records, only birth and marriage. And apparently civil death records don't start until 1886. The family name was CLERGET or CLERGI or CLERGY. Thanks for any suggestions, Hilary Henkin North Hollywood, Calif

Hello Listers, I am looking for information about St. Clare's Convent, on South Division Street, Buffalo. I know it was still open in 1940. I found Annie Dion in the 1910 Buffalo Census as a Postulant at St. Clare's Convent. She was a teacher, and it looks like it was a teaching order, as all of the nuns and postulants were teachers. I cannot get more information as I do not know the religious Order of the Sisters at this Convent. Annie Dion was not there after the 1910 census. If I had the name of the Order, then I could contact the Mother House of that Order. Thanks in advance for any information you can give me. Mary Ann

Interesting site - I agree, very useful. I've been able to match up some things with the 1866 atlas at Ancestry. However, the German St. I'm seeking ran east/west according to the description in the deed. The property began at some point 255 feet east of Jefferson St. This description was from 1843/1849, so even earlier than any of the online sources I've been able to locate. It is identified as being in Outer lot 22 which seems to be the area bounded by Jefferson, Best, Johnson, and High. this does include German St./Sherman although that seems further than 255 east of Jefferson. I appreciate everyone's help with this. While I haven't yet identified the exact parcel, at least now I have an idea on the approximate area.
