Hi, John, What are the documents you are seeking? Some of the naturalization records are available online; I'm not sure, but it might be Ancestry.com. The censuses are available through Ancestry as well, but it sounds as if you might have that. Have you checked the 1900 census? If the naturalization papers aren't online, you would probably need to contact National Archives in New York; I don't know if other branches in the U.S. would have the information. Good luck! http://www.buffaloresearch.com/ John you can try this site to get started - and by the way, don't you laugh: my husband's first immigrant from Germany came to use both versions of his name on land documents - so we aren't rather sure which was the original ! I received the following information from Wayne Rettke about Concordia Cemetery, and he wanted me to pass it on to the NYERIE mail list: You had asked some questions about Concordia I have been on Concordias' board for the last five years we continue to fight the problems of apathy and lack of volunteers. We have righted and reset close to 500 markers, replaced the missing iron work and signs, installed lot index posts, created plot maps and tried to maintain the grounds as best we can without city or state funding. I have sent letters to at least fifty churches and community organizations, I've contacted the Lutheran and Evangelical founding churches. I've asked for youth groups to help us, all to no avail. Many people think the Cemetery is an obligation of the Churches, this has not been the case for over forty years. You having people here must be aware of the changes to the neighborhood. I fully understand why we can't get volunteers, we have five core volunteers who are burning out. This part of Buffalo has and is undergoing a lot of problems with arson and crimes to persons. It is nonetheless difficult to walk away from the cemetery, I myself have sixty one family members buried there and feel their plots need to be cared for. Concordia has no space for new burials therefore no sales. We have reserved plots already paid for years ago. Our only income is through search fees and by surviving families paying lot fees of 15.00 per year per grave or 30.00 per family plot. Although we have over 15,000 graves very few of these fees are paid. Each cutting of our 15 acres is close to 1,000. We do have a group of United Way volunteers scheduled for August 19 and hope to get some of the problem areas caught up. I know it's a rather gloomy update, but we hope to make it past this recession Thank you again Wayne Rettke Concordia Cemetery Assn po box 1773 Amherst, NY 14226

For the past several years the cemetery has been mailing out notices to relatives(that they know of) to \pay $15.00 per lot for care once a year. I think that coud be increased and if the names & addresses of relatives could be given to the cementery so everyone could make a donation that would really help. There is no more room to sell lots to make any money. Betty Pesch Powell
Good morning, I also would be willing to contribute. My grandfather is buried in Concordia. I live in Oviedo (near Orlando) Florida. It's a shame someone in charge of the cemetery can't have a PayPal account setup. It sounds as though that provide a good start to solving the cemetery's funding issues. I thought that groups of people were going in and helping to clean up the cemetary. I have some ancestors that are buried there, and I would be willing to contribute. It would have to be monitary, because I live in Wichita, Ks. What about other decendents of those buried there? Is there no interest? I can answer some of your questions. St Stephens microfilm is available at the Buffalo and Erie Co Public Library. Which Trinity Lutheran?? There are 3, with distinct names. Trinity Old Lutheran, originally on Goodell St., now on Sheridan Drive in Eggertsville; available on microfilm at the Historical Society and I believe at BECPL as well. First Trinity Lutheran, Missouri Synod, formerly on Michigan Avenue in Buffalo and now on Niagara Falls Blvd in the Town of Tonawanda. There are 2 copies of the microfilm, one at the Family History Center on Maple Road in Amherst, NY and one downtown at the BECPL. Holy Trinity Lutheran, on Main Street in downtown Buffalo. Who do you need to contact at the Genealogy Society?? I am on the board. As far as Concordia Cemetery, I did the database which is online and in a very corrupted condition. The cemetery is sorely in deed of funding, and I offered the database to them, with the idea of providing info via Paypal. The person in charge is trying through the University of Buffalo to get free construction and maintenance of the website, and she has not been very successful ... and it is dragging on. I do not have any knowledge as to how to do it, and wouldn't know what to do with Paypal either. So I am in a waiting mode. Do you need me to do any lookups for you?? Karen ---- "W. # St. Stephens (records available on microfilm only through the Western NY Genealogy Society library). Originals are stored at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, 750 Wehrle Drive, Buffalo, New York 14225. # Trinity Lutheran (records not available on microfilm) Is there a contact at Western NY Genealogy Society library? Is there a contact at Trinity Lutheran Church? What is happening to Concordia Cemetery lately (last note was August 2007)? W. David Samuelsen

I remember my grandmother saying that she and her mother (possibly her grandmother too) were in the line waiting to shake hands with the former president when he was shot. She said the man that shot him was only two ahead of her. Therefore, I thought if she was that close to the former president at the time, her picture might be in some photos captured that day. Check the old newspapers - maybe calling the historical society or an Erie co. library would be best way to begin. perhaps someone already has put something online- do a search for it. most of the ones I came upon in a quick search, show the officials, no one in the crowd, such as at the illustration at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_McKinley_assassination Check Buffalo/area websites, such as: http://www.buffaloresearch.com/ http://www.buffalonian.com/hnews/1901ourpresidentshot.html Linda ----- Original Message ----- I know this is a shot in the dark, but would anybody know if there would be a photo of the shooting of former President McKinley?
