    3. The list of family names you found is actually the WNYGS Surname List. These are names submitted by members so that other Society members can contact them to exchange information. The Surname List is printed on the Society webpage for the convenience of our members and to encourage WNY researchers to join the Society. The board has voted that the member information (name, address) can not be shared with non-members. I can tell you that only one of the four members searching BAGLEY that you listed is still active in the Society at this time. The Society, which was founded in 1974, publishes a quarterly Journal. The Surrogate Index is an on-going Society project and indexes for seven of the eight counties covered by the Western NY Gen. Soc. have been printed in earlier issues of the Journal. Surrogate Indexes for Erie County from 1800 through 1880 have also been published in earlier issues of the Journal. We are currently in the process of printing the Erie County Surrogate Index from 1881 through 1900, with the records from Dies to Dz scheduled to be printed in the upcoming June 2010 issue. A Journal CD (Vol. 1-27) is available for purchase from the Society. We also now have an additional Journal CD (Vol 28-32) available for purchase. Both of these contain full copies (PDF) of the Journals and are searchable. Details can be found on the Society website at http://www.wnygs.org/journal.html. An index of articles previously published in the Journal can be viewed by clicking on the Journal Index link on the right-hand side of the same page. Copies of the Journal are also available in the Grosvenor Room collection of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. 3. Kay, I think all the children were born in Canada. I've attached what I have from the 1900 census. 5-Jun. According to the 1900 US Census Maggie (Elizabeth Margaret) Kerr lives in the 11th Ward, Supervisor’s District 17, Enumeration District 88 of Buffalo city Erie County, NY. She will later marry Henry Frank Wiler. She lives with her parents on Greene Street. In the house are Alexander Kerr born July 1843, Sara Jane Sharman, his wife born March 1864, Jessie born July 1884, Thadius born Aug 1886, and Maggie born September 1891. Alexander’s occupation is listed as painter. The whole family moved to America in 1893. Sorry. This is all I know. I know more about Elizabeth because she was my Grandmother. I know Jessie lived and died in the Buffalo area. I only got to see her maybe three or four times in my life. I think she had a son named George who, if he was still alive would be in his late seventies to late eighties.. 3. Ruth it appears that the children were orphaned between the 1892 and 1900 censuses, is this correct? (as per familysearch.org). If so, you have a good shot at death records. vitalrec.com is a good resource. If it was in Buffalo, where they were last living, you can contact the city; or if outside Buffalo, the Erie County Clerk. Info below. 3. What I have found to be really helpful is the archived newspaper sites. I have downloaded certain articles pertaining to current events of that time and have attached them to genealogy documents in the form of a word document. As an example I had many relatives die in Cleveland due to a cholera outbreak. I then found several articles about this outbreak and have included them. The same with various political events. Just reading the newspapers myself has really given me so much insight to the times our ancestors lived. marennad@aol.com wrote: > > > I think in the future with all the erasing of true history and the substitutes that are presented instead, the work Illegal will be crossed out and a new nice term will be presented. This is not easy since we are now putting today's standards of political correctness on people who lived 150 years ago. > Just think if Britain is dropping Winston Churchill as a great leader to a war monger, what must some writer of text books be thinking here. > > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Nelson W. You may wish to try different search terms with "all the words" selected. There's a wealth of treasures in these old newspapers, I have found many stories about my ancestors here. 2. Well Everyone , GOOD NEWS . well after several emails over the past year . I finally received a answer from Germany . I am very hopeful and excited that my next step will take me even further back , Since i have been able to find all the names & dates and Catholic Parish name that is needed . Below is copy of the email I received back from them for you information ....Wish me luck . Thanks you again for all the support & help . Paul Hilburger/ Atlanta Georgia Genealogical Research in the Regensburg area Dear Mr. Hilburger, Thank you for contacting the Diocese of Regensburg Archives. This is in response to your inquiry received by our office on March 09, 2010. Our Archives hold sacramental records of the Diocese of Regensburg prior to 1880/1900. If you want to commission a research, please provide us with sufficient information. We do not have a master index to our sacramental records but must search on a parish by parish basis. If you do not know the parish where a sacrament occurred try to find an address for the family at the time the sacrament was administered. This will help us to pinpoint a parish. Include as much information as you know about each person: city and church, full name of the person, date of the event or a reasonable estimate. Emigration/immigration office documents and censuses help to pinpoint this information. We get a lot of letters and emails concerning genealogical research. Request should be limited to five or six records. A waiting period of 6 to 8 weeks is not avoidable. Then we will inform you about the charge in total (incl. postage). We will not take more than 1 hour of working time per file. Our answer will be in German and sent by post to your address, after payment is confirmed. Charge for genealogical research is at present 30,00 Euros for ½ hour of searching service and 6,00 Euros for Photostats (Xerox) of the filmed records. The payment has to be made by personal check, international money order or bank draft with the payee’s charge prepaid. Checks should be made out to the Bischoefliches Zentralarchiv Regensburg, bank charges must be considered. Unfortunately we cannot accept credit cards. Sincerely yours, (Msgr. Paul Mai Ph.D.)
