SHEPARD - so he was still alive or she would have been called widow -?? At first I thought William BENTLEY had another wife, for Rebecca shows on the 1850 census And again on the 1870 census - I think that perhaps the census taker wrote Barbara when He should of said Rebecca - or Rebecca wasn't home that day and someone else was there- Thank you, Wilma Fleming Haynes wilmahaynes@direcway.com or wilmahaynes@direcpc.com

    3. Hello everyone - I have been so excited the last few days, I have searched the census at Ancestry.com AND have found my SARAH [GRAVES] SHEPARD- In 1950- 1860- 1870 and 1880. census - I am sending what I have found - In the 1880 census - Perhaps I can help you, or you may know of this family. Actually we are trying to find who her parents were - so far no luck - but Just knowing what happened to her after her husband died in 1858 at Hamburg, Erie, New York - seems she just kinda drifted about - I don't know how far Chautauqua county is from Erie co - but Erie county is where her children 10 of 'em were all born - that is where her husband lived and both she and her husband and some of her children are buried in the North Evans Cemetery, Evans, Erie, New York including some of the BENTLEY family - of which she was a boarder in 1770 in Erie county - Abby BENTLEY married her son James M. SHEPARD- Below is the 1880 census - she died the following year - SHEPARD FAMILY I am looking for our SHEPARD family - I was so thrilled to find them in the Chautauqua 1880 census - I have searched for 40 years for our 3RD GR GRANDMOTHER SARAH [GRAVES] SHEPARD - it was just a fluke that I looked here and there she was with her daughter-in-law Irene [Wood] Shepard the widow of Sarah's son Mathias SHEPARD [who I am searching for also] - where did he die? I know it wasn't more than 12 years - for that is the age of his youngest child Nellie, who is 12 in the 1880 census -- 1880 census Inhabitants in Chautauqua, in the county of Chautauqua State of New York Page - 4 Supervisor's district - 11 Emuneration dust, number - 43 Emumerated on the 5th of June 1880 signed - John J. .....can't read it. dwelling - 29 family - 30 SHEPARD - Irene SHEPARD - color - w - sex - f - age - 55 [born 1825 NY] - widowed - fathers birth - Connecticut - mothers birth - New York - Emma Jane SHEPARD - color - w - sex - f - age - 30 [born 1850- NY] - daughter - single - Mathias SHEPARD - color - w - sex - m - age - 18 [born 1862] - son - single - occupation- farmer - Nellie SHEPARD - color - w - sex -f - age - 12 - daughter - occupation - at school - -- SARAH SHEPARD - [our 3rd/gr gm] - color - w - sex - f - age - 80 - [b 1880 - NY]- grandmother - widowed - fathers birth place - left blank- mothers birth place - left blank - Bradford SHEPARD - color - w - sex- m - age - 32 - [born 1879 NY] - son - married - occupation - farmer - Elbina SHEPARD - color - w - sex - f - age - 25 - [born 1855 - NY] - wife - married - occupation - keeping house - Father's birth place - NY - Mother's birth place - NY - Bradford SHEPARD jr - color - w - sex - m - age 4 1/2 - [born 1879 NY]- ---------- We have found SARAH SHEPARD in the below census - 1850 - census in Hamburg, Erie, NY with husband and some children- Her husband d 1858 after that it seems the family moved to Plesant Valley Twp, county of Johnson, state of Iowa - 1860 - census in Pleasant Valley Twp., Johnson, Iowa with her daughter Jane and her husband Joseph MOILE and children - including two of Sally's son's Charles age 27 and James age 20 - Sally also had a daughter Laura with husband James BORELAND living near by - 1870 census I found Sally boarding with William BENTLEY'S household, they were her daughter-in-law Abby [Bentley] Shepard's parents that was in Evans, Erie, New York 1880 census - I found Sally in the house hold of her other daughter-in-law Irene [Wood] Shepard, the widow of Sally's son Mathias - [see above] I know that SARAH SHEPARD died 22 April 1881 I thought she died in Hamburg, Erie, New York, but after finding her in the Chautauqua census I am wondering if she died there - She and her husband JOSEPH SHEPARD 1781-1858 are both buried in the North Evans Cemetery, Evans, Erie, New York. 3. Hi! I wish I knew what religion they were. I am thinking more like Presbyterian or Lutheran, but I'm not sure. That's the hard part. I really don't know a lot about their "private" life to know where to search. Death certificates and info from the mortuary is all that I have on Julia and only that her body was shipped to Buffalo, NY. They have no other information in their records as to where she would have been buried. Thanks for your suggestions, though. It might be that I may be able to find something on them in Minneapolis. I have a friend there that has been checking with the church there and perhaps she can call them and ask about Julia and Anna. 1. Cemetery search - Searching for Julia (RISLEY) DURKEE
    2. Trisha Neal
    3. How would I find what cemetery Julia DURKEE is buried in? I have checked the different web sites, but I must be missing something. Julia Maria (RISLEY) DURKEE died January 25, 1911 at Spokane, WA. Her body was shipped to Buffalo, NY. I am assuming to be buried next to her husband, George Waldo Durkee who died September 22, 1879 at Utica, NY. However, that hasn't been confirmed either. Her death certificate from Washington State does not state where she was buried and the records from the mortuary in Spokane do not show where her body was shipped, just that it was sent by train to Buffalo, NY. I am hoping that if I can find Julia, I will find Anna E. Durkee in the same cemetery. Anna was adopted (either legally or just in name only) by Julia and possibly George before his death. I don't know when Anna died, but I believe I have narrowed the time frame down to 1947 to 1949. Anna was born Anna Ploss, daughter of Martin Ploss about Septebmer 1868. Her last known address was in Brooklyn, NY in 1936. Any help that you can provide would be appreciated. Trish Trish Neal Coos Bay, OR 97420 541-297-8005

By 1900 Anna, John Treft's widow, was still living at #735. In 1920 it was the residence of a steel plant manager, but by 1925 it had become a "converted multiple resident." 3. Hello, I'm back to searching the WONSOWICZ surname again. It's also been spelled WANSOWICZ and WINSEWICZ ... with the vowels being moved around here and there to offer many other different spellings. I need to find Marcin Wonsowicz alive somewhere between 1910 and 1920 in Buffalo, NY. His wife, Rosella, was a widow in the 1920 census which was transcribed Jan. 21, 1920. His son, Joseph Wonsowicz should be listed from 1913 on. I know this is a big request, but please, may I have the names of all the person with the surname WONSOWICZ, or similar spellings, who were living in Buffalo, NY circa 1910-1920? I'm hoping to find siblings of Marcin and his son, Joseph. I have some directories copies for this surname from 1924-1934, but need earlier ones to hopefully establish kinfolk. Thank you so much for any help you hae to offer. Carol First Name: Marcin Last Name: Wonsowicz Ethnicity: Russia-Polish Last Place of Residence: Ksawerawka, Russia Date of Arrival: December 17, 1910 Age at Arrival: 34y Gender: M Marital Status: M Ship of Travel: Volturno Port of Departure: Rotterdam, Netherlands Manifest Line Number: 0023

Alan, I'm going to give you a history of the occupants of 735 Delaware from the book "Buffalo's Delaware Avenue, Mansions and Families" by Edward T Dunn, Cansius College Press, 2003. By 1900 Anna, John Treft's widow, was still living at #735. In 1920 it was the residence of a steel plant manager, but by 1925 it had become a "converted multiple resident." There are two pictures of the house in the book. I do not believe that it is still standing. George
