    1. Ship arrival: Peter Langenfeld
    2. Dianne Erickson
    3. I believe that I FINALLY might have located the entrance of Peter LANGENFELD and his family to the U.S. I think in an interesting spelling, he is under "Perre Longfield," arriving on the ship, The Huntress, on November 11, 1831. I found the entry in a book entitled Arrival at the Port of New York, 1830-1832. I think Peter has traveled from Germany to France to Switzerland before coming to the U.S. (Wow!) Does anyone know how I can obtain the complete passenger list for this trip of the ship, THE HUNTRESS? I am not finding Michael FEIT in that same book, but this spelling may also be obscured. Michael may have come later. I cannot find him in the 1840 census. Thank you. I think Michael's daughters were: Magdalena, Emily, Anna Maria, and Barbara Feit Langenfeld. Another related family appears to be Martin FRYSMAN and Margaretha Langenfeld Frysman. Magdalena, Martin, and Margaretha were in the U.S. by 1832. I want to know if they came on the same ship in an obscured spelling. Dianne

    1. DAW & CROSBY Family Bible
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old family bible which originally belonged to Henry DAW & Mary CROSBY. Information included in the bible is as follows: DAW & CROSBY Family Bible Marriages: · Henry DAW & Mary CROSBY married 24th Feb 1819 · Alfred DeForest DAW & Eva Sarah KNAPP married 24th Sept 1856 Births: · Henry DAW, 23rd June 1795 · Mary CROSBY, 18th Aug 1796 · Henry Harrison DAW, 7th Nov 1826 · George Horton DAW, 14th May 1828 · Alfred DeForest DAW, 10th June 1831 · Harrison Hopkins DAW, 13th Sept 1833 Deaths: · Henry DAW, 14th Aug 1864 · Henry Harrison DAW, 14th Sept 1827 · George Horton DAW, 20th Apr 1831 · Harrison Hopkins DAW, 29th May 1847 Based on limited research I believe that the family was living in Buffalo, New York during the 1830's when the children and their father were all baptized at the Saint Pauls Episcopal Church there in August 1834. I also find Alfred D. DAW and his wife Eva S. DAW living in Buffalo during the 1880 census with a son Harry L. DAW age 22, born in NY. Both Alfred and Eva's place of birth was listed as NY with Alfred listing his father's place of birth as CT. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old bible can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    2. Gary Rea
    3. I am searching for information on my great-granduncle Alfred Amberson REA, who was born 16 September 1854 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and died 4 December 1913 in City Hospital, Buffalo, New York. In particular, I'd like to know when he arrived in Erie County, NY and whether he remarried and raised a family there. He had been married to Alla L. Hill 4 December 1879 in Monroe County, Wisconsin and fathered a daughter named Kittie Bernice Rea (20 June 1880), but the marriage ended in divorce. Alfred is said to have been a gambler and traveler and I am wondering if might have later settled down in Buffalo with a new wife and children. Thanks. Gary Rea

    3. Dear Aonz, I'm answering on-list becasue this info might be stuff most new Firefox users wouldn't be aware of. A fun tip: once you download and install Firefox, you can download lots (that's LOTS) of different themes which change the look of the browser. You can also add, at your own choice, the various plug-ins you may want (Quicktime, Flash, etc.). It's a much better browser than IE in my opinion, and better than the related Netscape because there's plenty of tech support, user groups, etc. for assistance. (Netscape has virtually none). I especially LOVE using "open in new tab" instead of opening in the same or a new window. It's really useful for genealogy, when I can follow links without losing the one I'm starting from. Think of checking the various names on a census or EIDB list --, and always being able to go back to the list in a snap. Or being able to view 5 pages of EIDB passenger names simultaneously --. 3. The Hamburg Fairgrounds sits in the space bounded by Southpark Ave, Clark Street, McKinley Parkway and Quinby Drive. I grew up 1 mile from the fairgrounds and always looked forward to the 1st Friday in August when the fair would start. I can remember going with my mom and grandmother to enter exhibits in the woman's building. Baking for my 4-H entries and buying elephant ears and salt water taffy. I could watch the fireworks from my bedroom mirror each night. Te fair each year was the highlight of my summer. The end of the fair always marked the end of summer and time to return to school. I got my 1st kiss on the Tilt A Whirl when I was 16. Alot of fond memories in my life were associated with the fair. 3. There are three or four county fairs across the US that claim to be the oldest county fair in the country, however, Erie County is not one of them. Erie County's claim to fame is that it is the LARGEST county fair in the U.S boasting a 1 mile long midway. You may find it listed now-a-days as "The Buffalo Raceway and Expo." I think they may have added a reference to the new casino to the name also. It's main entrance is located on U.S. 62 (South Park Avenue) in Hamburg, NY. Were Jack and Ebba(?) married in 1930? Did they have any children at home at that time? Do you have estimated birth years for Jack and Ebba? This information is crucial for locating and identifying persons in the census records. Good Luck, Amy
