He doesn't appear in my index, which, unfortunately is only half finished. I checked Fourteen Holy Helpers which is in Gardenville and did not find him mentioned there either. Did you obtain her application for a marriage license yet?
Chris, I am intrigued by your answer to Johnna. I have been trying to ascertain the (probably) Catholic Church affiliation of the priest (?) who married my grandmother and my grandfather in Buffalo, also in 1916. Would you be willing to take a quick look in your Donahue's and let me know if there is any information on a Rev. John J. Lehmann (Gardenville, NY). I only ask because my own grandmother is a brick wall for me (what an embarrassment) and we suspect that she was an orphan. She left multiple (and different) indications of who her parents were, so perhaps the church affiliation of the person who performed her marriage ceremony might give me a clue for further research. I know I'm grasping at straws, but . . . Zona, I have subscribed to ancestry.com and have been able to find them as SICKAU and SICKAN in the 1900-1930 census as well as WWI draft card registration. they were naturalized. however, on each census it was a different date! Where would I send away for the "first papers" (declaration of intent?). Would these papers list the port of entry? I am also researching the GRITZKE and KILLINGBECK families as well. I have quite a bit of information on the GRITZKE family, as I have met 2 people who are also researching that family. I am more than willing to share the information with anyone who is interested in these families. All the best, Christine
Dear Dianne, Yes, you can write to NARA for a copy of the entire passenger list, and that probably WOULD be expensive. But if you have access to a Mormon Family History Center, you can order the microfilm yourself, review the passenger list, and make your own copies. The film which has your Pierre Langfield is this one: Title Passenger lists of vessels arriving at New York, 1820-1897 ; index to passenger lists of vessels arriving in New York, 1820-1846 Authors United States. Immigration and Naturalization Service (Main Author) Notes Microfilm of original records in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Film Notes: Passenger lists 2 Jul 1831-31 Jan 1832 FHL US/CAN Film 2260 Good luck! Hilary Henkin PS - if you want to review the rest of this film series, go to <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp>, and click on "Film/Fiche Search". Your Grandmother could have been baptized at home. That was very common years ago. Found out some of my family was baptized at home. Often would have a celebration afterward. There was a Reverend Miller at St. Ann's on Broadway for a short period between 1903 and 1929 but I don't know the exact dates. Hi All: Would anyone know which church Herman J. Miller was pastor of in Buffalo in 1916? I just received a copy of my Grandmother's Baptismal Certificate. It had the Pastor, but there was no church listed. Johnna St Clair
Got it! (VERY long day!) Disregard my last email. Kate had explained in a part I overlooked that it is possible to get the passenger list. It might be cheaper to return to the book and try all the various spellings. Dianne
Thank you, Kate, So if I write to NARA, would they give me a complete passenger list for that ship? I am trying to locate the extended family to see whether they got on the same ship. I went alphabetically through the book and located Peter and family, but I could not find the Feit and Frysman families alphbetically. However, since they might be dreadfully misspelled, I thought that if I saw the list of passengers who traveled with the Langenfelds, I might find the others. I was just wondering if anyone is researching the SICKAU family from Buffalo/Lackawanna area. My grandparents arrived in the US in 1893, but I have hit a brick wall finding the port of entry. Any idea where they may have arrived? If they came on a cargo ship, would I be able to find them? I have a feeling that they did not come on a passenger ship. Many thanks! Christine Sallam
Dianne~ Using the Ancestry.com immigration databases, I located the record that interests you: Name: Pierre Langfield Arrival Date: Nov 11, 1831 Age: 38 Gender: M Port of Arrival: New York Place of Origin: Switzerland Occupation: Farmer Destination: New York Ship: Ship Huntress Microfilm Serial Number: M237 Microfilm Roll Number: 15 List Number: 407 Source Information: Ancestry.com. To obtain a complete photocopy of this passenger list, you can request a copy from the National Archives (NARA) or go to your local district office and pull a copy of yourself (assuming they have the films in your region). I'm suspecting that the Ship Huntress was a fairly large ship and that this may be a very lengthy passenger list (i.e., expensive to photocopy!). If you need some additional advice, feel free to contact me directly at katej-AT-idcomm.com. Congratulations on finding your LANGENFELDs! Best of luck with your hunt. Check the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses to see if they were naturalized. Then send for their "first papers". Zona
