Of possible interest to those who live in Erie County and are active in a genealogy society, or do look-ups. Where would I look for a marriage & divorce in Buffalo? I've tried the church my great grandfather was baptized in--& the one that recorded his death. No luck. A third church recorded a son's death in 1891. So I'm guessing the marriage was before that. Jessie BROCKLEHURST-HEICHBERGER married a 2nd time in 1906, that location hasn't been found yet either. I've spent many $$ on a Buffalo researcher, without results-- trying to find my HEICHBERGER/BROCKLEHURST marriage & divorce. Can some kind person point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance!
Fourteen Holy Helpers Church is located at the corner of Indian Church Road and Union Road in West Seneca. I hate to disillusion you, but you won't find a city directory that covers Gardenville. The Buffalo directories cover strictly inside the city limits until the 1930s, and even then, they ignore the Town of West Seneca where Gardenville is located. What is the location in Gardenville? This might be enough to pinpoint the church, if indeed the deed was done in a church. Floyd, You might want to contact Fourteen Holy Helpers directly. They should be able to tell you if the priest had been affiliated with their parish in the past. Here is the listing for the church on the Buffalo Diocese website (www.buffalodiocese.org): FOURTEEN HOLY HELPERS [1864] Rev. Msgr. David S. Slubecky, JCL., STL., Pastor RECTORY: 1345 Indian Church Rd., 14224-1379 PHONE: 674-2374/2375; FAX: 675-4864 Church website - http://www.fourteenholyhelpers.homestead.com/ They have a chat session available. Maybe you can pose your question there. Another approach to determining the church is to check the City Directory for the year of the marriage. An entry for the minister will often tell you what church he was associated with. The directories usually also contain a section on the churches in the area, typically found at the beginning of the directory. Buffalo City Directories have been microfilmed through 1935 and are available through any LDS Family History Center. I also agree with Chris, that the logical place to look for a Catholic marriage in Gardenville is Fourteen Holy Helpers Church. The records for this church have also been microfilmed by LDS: Microfilm of original records at Fourteen Holy Helpers Parish, Gardenville, New York. Most of text in Latin. Most volumes include index. Is anyone in the Buffalo area have an interest in these names. The ages are what they were in 1836. Baron, Georges age 62 Baron, Georges age 28 Baron, Philippine age 21 (female) Baron, Catherine age 17 Baron, Louise age 14 Baron, Josephine age 9 Kappler, Elisabeth age 50 Some of the above may have come to Buffalo prior to 1862. Thanks to Chris for the index check also to Zona and Nancy for the suggestions. (And why didn't I think of the City Directory idea myself?) I even have an FHC about 20 mins away, but it always seems like such a pain to get there. I guess it's "no pain, no gain". I do have the marriage license, which has a number of inconsistencies on it (ages and occupations) and which does not indicate a Church, but merely a location of Gardenville. Floyd
Subject: new to list I've gotten alot of my HEICHBERGER family line done. Seems they settled in the Buffalo area--lived there & died there. What I don't have & can't find, is the marriage or divorce records for my great grandparents: Fred Albert HEICHBERGER b. April 26, 1866 and Jessie Alice BROCKLEHURST. Fred was Baptized @ St. John's Lutheran Church July 8, 1866. Fred's death entry was found in the depository for Zoar Evangelical & Reformed Church. St. Matthew's Evang. death register has a son of Fred & Jessie's listed in 1891. And some of the family is buried @ Mt. Calvary Cemetery. I haven't found any living "cousins" so far, and my HEICHBERGER kin are long gone. I'd love to find a photo or 2!! Any ideas on where to look next? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you in advance...
Looking for information on Colwells and Thompsons that lived in the Pendleton NY area around 1840; however they could have been also in Erie County. The town of Tonawanda comes up in family records. (Maybe Colwell, Coldwell, Caldwell, Cauldwell). Looking for family trees or family member names. I am looking for the cemetery for James Colwell who in 1840 was in the age range 70-80. Suspect he died in the Lockport, Niagara County, area. Also looking for the cemetery for James Thompson who in 1840 was in the age range 80-90. Suspect he died in the Pendleton, Niagara County NY area. Would like to get a photograph of their tombstones IF I could locate their cemetery, especially James. Also looking for a marriage record of John Caldwell (could be colwell or coldwell or cauldwell) who was age 35 in 1840 and Jane Thompson (age 21 in 1840). The above parents would probably be witnesses. They had their first child (James) in April 1841 and he was born in Pendleton, Niagara County, NY. Thanks for any help you can provide in locating...
