April 22 will be the kick-off for volunteer activity at Concordia Cemetery (438 Delevan). This year, the Christian Youth Group from Delavan, New York will be bringing a busload of volunteers to complete the painting of the cemetery office and to do a general cleanup of the property. Others are welcome to come and help! Are you in the Buffalo area? That means you! ;-) -- Jillaine Smith Volunteer Web Weaver for... When it's snowing outside, what else is there to do, but plan a spring/summer/fall visit to Buffalo to research one's ancestors? (And for those of you already in Buffalo, I'm sure you've got plenty of shovelling to keep you busy...) A couple of months ago, someone sent me email seeking advice for a genealogy-related visit to Buffalo. (Because of the Buffalo East Side web site I maintain, I many people believe I reside in Buffalo... I don't; I'm in Washington DC). Anyway, seeking to help this person, I went searching for such a web page-- certainly there must be something like it. I thought Cynthia had prepared such a page. But I could not find it. I threw together some quick suggestions, George Richmond threw in a few more, and I compiled the following: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine/Buffalo/visit.html It's currently in draft mode, and I would love suggestions for making it a good check list. I am, of course, open to deleting it entirely if such a thing exists elsewhere already. Thanks. -- Jillaine Smith http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine

Hello Everyone: Those of you who are working on your lines back to your 1600s American Ancestors will find the 1600s Ancestors Data Base to be of great help. I have recently posted several hundred new Ancestors to the Data Base bringing the total to over 29,000 entries both men and women. Also listed are several National Societies who have proven many of the Ancestors you will find here. There are also a few new Reference Works that contain many more lines. The entries are coded to indicate to which Society or Reference Work has at least one of their proven lines. Several of the National Societies have over 20 different lines from a single Ancestor. WHEN YOU ENTER THE 1600s ANCESTORS DATA BASE be sure to look at the top of each data page for the link that takes you to the "Data Base Information Page". There you will find the list of codes and how to use them. This is MUST reading if you are to understand the Data Base and how to use it. We are constantly updating the Data Base with Additional Ancestors and references as time permits. More work has been devoted to updating listings of the female Ancestors by going back and including marriage dates. This takes much time and we still have a lot of work to do there. You will find the 1600s Ancestor Data Base at; http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/ For those of you who are AOL members you may have trouble connecting to many pages that may come up with a message such as "Page Does Not Exist" and you should cure that by using your browser feature of Copy and Paste the URL to your browser and pressing your enter key. Everyone has free access to the Data Base and to all our posted pages. Enjoy and Happy Hunting Ryan Jackson Data Base Manager America's First Families

Shannon, The North Tonawanda Public Library is about a mile from my house. I can stop in and check the microfilm of the Tonawanda News for this obituary. There is a local attorney by the name of Joseph Arbour who lives in NT. Perhaps he's related? I probably won't be able to make it there until next week. Zona, From the Bader web site: 18 Feb 1880: Augusta Beider/Buder dies at the Almshouse, age 65 (might be Pluto's mother). Did you ever find an obituary or almshouse record of death? Enumeration of 1880 census was as of June 1. However, Conrad (Pluto's brother?) was found. From Beth Sullivan on 24 March 2004 in Erie County List archives: Found him in 1880 as well. Conrad Beiter District 133, listed as a boarder/Servant Line 35 Pg 24 Supervisor District 11, Enum District 133 Listed as 30 yrs old. Parents born in Germany.Good luck, Zona.Judy Baker

For some reason I thought someone had found Augusta BADER (Pluto's mom) in the 1880 census in an Almshouse (Erie County home). Does anyone remember this? I cannot find her on this census no matter how I spell the name. Zona
