While this has no connection with Erie County, Battle Creek, Michigan apparently gave all their photos from about 1939 to Willard Library, which has made them available online. It was great to reconstruct my old neighborhood from the images!!! Also, I made an album for my Mother of the various places she had lived in town - with recent photos of those that are still standing. Perhaps those who are aware of such photos in their local assessors office could start encouraging them to donate them to a library..... We are searching for any information for a Nellie Mahoney b.ca.1865 and living in Buffalo, New York in 1891. Nellie's mother's maiden name was McDermott. Her first name was either Eleanor, Ann, Catherine, or Eliza. All were daughters of Thomas McDermott (b.ca.1792 Ireland; d.20 Feb. 1867 Ridgeway, Orleans Co., New York) and his wife Ellen. We are not certain as to which daughter married a "Mahoney" and had Nellie, although Eleanor does seem the most likely prospect. The only reference we have for Nellie is a statement in the Decatur, Macon Co., Illinois newspaper dated 13 Feb. 1891: "Miss Nellie Mahoney of Buffalo, New York arrived in the city yesterday to visit her uncle Henry McDermott of East Jefferson Street." Henry was born 7 July 1837 Ireland; d. 12 May 1914 Decatur, Macon Co., Illinois. We do hope someone will recognize these names. Thank you very much. Carol Warren

I'm going to suggest something extraordinary that might put a stop to these people violating your copyright. Namely, charge people something for the service you perform. It is definitely a valuable service, and definitely worth something to someone who wanted an obit you had collected. You would not need to charge much to make this scheme end -- maybe $5 per obit would be fair. If somebody wrote you and told you they couldn't afford it, you could always waive the charge if you believed them. I have found that PayPal is an easy way to have people pay you on line, and the commission they charge is reasonable. If you don't feel right about charging for this, you might consider donating the proceeds to some Buffalo-area not-for-profit institution that has been helpful to you, such as the Buffalo Central Library. I don't know of any library anywhere that couldn't put a few dollars to good use in improving their genealogy collection or even staying open a few more hours a week. Ask them if you don't believe me! Unfortunately, there are plenty of unscrupulous people out there who are all too happy to take advantage of a person's generosity. Good luck! Shelly I'd like to forward your post to an Italian list I belong to, where many members are originally from or still living in Buffalo. Perhaps someone will claim it. I didn't add your email information but will forward any replies I get to you. I also have photos from Loffredo studios - of my parents wedding, which took place in the late 1940's. There is a PARISI surname message board on ancestry.com Zona
I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Domenic PARASI, though I believe the name may have actually been PARISI. The photograph was taken at the Loffredo Studio in Buffalo, NY. The photograph was probably taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Domenic appearing to be in his 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. Other photographs obtained along with this photograph include surnames, JACKSON, WHEELER, REYNOLDS, ROBENSON, KIMBELL, GOULD, SOHR, HAUGHTON, GWAIN, CLARK, and STEWART with photographs originating from Buffalo, NY; Perry, NY; and Alexandria, MN; I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
I found some information that may be more accurate than what I have been told. Lloyd A. Hawkins may have died in 1965, and he may have been a banker in Buffalo. <<<Lloyd Hawkins who died possibly in 1967 which is all I have on him and Mildred (Shererd) Hawkins who died around July 4 1974. They had former addresses of 169 Kenmore Ave in Kenmore and 233 Parkside in Buffalo. These addresses were good around WWII.>>> As of the 1954/5 Buffalo phone book, there were no Hawkins listed at either of those addresses. There was one Lloyd in Buffalo, and dozens of other Hawkins in Buffalo. The only two Hawkins in the Tonawanda area were the following. Hawkins, Lloyd S. - 394 Hoyt St., Buffalo - ELmwood-6784 Hawkins, Albert R. - 344 Ward Rd., N. Tonawanda - LUdlow-2044 Hawkins, Richd - 951 Erie Ave., N. Tonawanda - LUdlow-5522 Hope this helps, Kathy
About cemeteries that might have been near where someone lived and/or went to church; there is an article in the September 23, 1895 Courier, that mentions a large amount of bones removed, with a probable larger number to come, that were on the site of Masten Park school. They were in the process of building the foundation. The article simply explains that the unmarked graves (25 so far, at the time of the article) will be removed to "Potter's Field". Further in the article, it says the site had formerly been the "Buffalo Private Cemetery", also known as the Best St. burying ground. Kathy
Does anyone know where I could find a photograph of my grandfather. He died in 1979. Would the DMV be able to help perhaps? Thanks for any suggestions...Donna ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com

Some time between 1920 and 1930, I think Threasa Reuman the wife of Julius Reuman died. They lived at 88 Euclid Ave. As far as I know they did not belong to a particular religion. I am looking for a cemetery in that area as I would like to find her grave and most likely Julius' also. Is there a cemetery near that area I could write to for that information? this from another list.... per Val Peiler "The book Past and Present of Lake County (1877) has the following listing for Charles Lux: "farmer and thresher; Sec. 27; P.O. Wadsworth; Dem; Cath; born in Buffalo, NY, July 11, 1843; came to Lake Co., Ill., Augst 7, 1852; is one of the earliest settlers in the county; purchased 1875 30 acres in Newport Tp; besides farming, he follows the occupation of a thresher during the summer." "Also listed are Nicholas and S. Lux, both farmers in Wadsworth, and John and Peter Lux, both laborers in Wadsworth."
