    2. Just sticking my nose in here for good measure - wouldn't the census image show the name of the institution at the top of the page? If it isn't there, try looking at previous pages for the begining of the prisoner list. Kathi IBSSG Probably incarcerated at Wende State Prison, because the Erie County Correctional Facility hadn't been built out there yet. --- CHARLES SIMONS <CHUCK_SIMONS@msn.com> wrote: > > actual census document accessed via Ancestry.com says > prisoner > > my grandparents had their own still during prohibition days > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Cynthia Van Ness<mailto:bettybarcode@yahoo.com> > To: NYERIE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:NYERIE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2005 2:19 PM > Subject: Re: [NYERIE] Alden Prision 1930 > > > I bet the census says she was an "inmate" and not a > "prisoner." > Today we would use the word "patient." 2. I hate to correct Cynthia but the Erie Co. Pen. was in existence in 1930 in Alden. It is on the 1930 census at ED 15-356 in the town of Alden, Millgrove PO. It was located in the building that the Wende State Correctional Facility occupies today at the corner of Walden Ave. & Wende Rd. The "new" pen was built, I think, in the 1980`s & it is just down the road from the old one. You might write to inquire about the availability of records from the 1930`s. 3. I stand humbly corrected. I briefly worked in the Erie County Correctional Facility as a librarian in the 1980s facility in Alden. My boss used to tell tales of the old holding center downtown, which became in my mind the horror that the Alden facility improved upon. Of course, there is a new holding center downtown as well and the two facilities are separate. Thanks, Pat. --- prodger1@rochester.rr.com wrote: > I hate to correct Cynthia but the Erie Co. 3. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Gordon A. Watts <gordon_watts@telus.net> Date: Jun 30, 2005 5:02 PM Subject: [ROOTS-L] Post 1901 Census -- further to WHERE and WHEN To: ROOTS-M@rootsweb.com Greetings All My thanks to Murray Bryson on the Can-Ont-Simcoe mail list for bringing the following to my attention. It would appear this answers the WHEN regarding online access to the 1911 Census records. A little longer to wait, and longer than was anticipated, but at least the question has been answered. Enjoy the Census when it is released. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Watts gordon_watts@telus.net Co-chair Canada Census Committee Port Coquitlam, BC http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Permission to forward without notice is granted =============================== http://www.collectionscanada.ca/whats-new/013-233-e.html Notice to Clients As many of you are aware, Bill S-18 has now received Royal Assent. Under this amended legislation, personal census records for censuses taken between 1911 and 2001 will be made available through Library and Archives Canada 92 years after each census took place. Library and Archives Canada has received the official transfer of the 1911 census records from Statistics Canada. To facilitate access to these records, a number of standard policies and procedures need to be followed before the product is launched. We are working very hard to release this information to researchers and the general public as quickly as possible. We hope to do this by early August.
