    1. Lotus House
    2. Has anyone ever heard of the "Lotus House" located in Kenmore (Village)? It was listed in the 1900 Census. I am assuming that it was some sort of orphanage as the oldest "inmate" was only 4 yrs. and the others were 1yr or younger. Their parents' birth places were listed as "UN" which I am guessing stands for unknown. There are 13 "inmates", 4 nurses, 1 superintendent, 1 assistant, 1 laundress and 1 servant listed as living in the house. It was near my G grandparents house, but the street is not listed on the census and all of the house numbers are 0. Any idea what that means? Cheers! Christine

    3. The campus in Perrysburg, Cattaraugus County became the site of J.N. Adam Developmental Center for people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. This became part of Western DDSO (developmental disabilities service office) when it merged with West Seneca Developmental Center. There may still be some offices for the DDSO there but I believe all the people served by J.N. Adam now live in group homes in the surrounding communities. 3. The Grand Opening Dedication Ceremonies for Schoolhouse #8 History Center on July 10 begin at 1 p.m. The History Center is located at 2101 School Street in North Collins, directly across the parking lot from North Collins Public Library. In the Schoolhouse #8 History Center are 1909 and c. 1940 maps showing families in each one-room school district. There is also a list of the voters in each district at the closing of the one-room schools c. 1950. Many of these surnames go back to the 1800s. The schoolhouse is restored and furnished to c. 1900 appearance, also with display cabinets with turn-of-the-century textbooks and children’s classics as well as items the children of the early 1900s would have been familiar with either at school or at home. 2. Hello - I could be totally wrong but when I was little my Uncle went to a TB asylum in Petersburg, NY. I don't remember the name of the hospital but what I do remember was how gorgeous the surroundings were. There were many rows of trees and my relatives would have to baby sit me while they took turns going into the hospital to visit my uncle. Hope this helps and I'd be curious to know what became of the hospital and whether it's still as pretty. Diane

    3. You are thinking of Perrysburg TB Sanitarium. It was located on Route 39 between Gowanda and Forestville. It is now closed of course and houses social service facilities of some sort or other. There was a hospital at Gowanda but it was for the mentally ill. While there was a hospital there the people who were able worked the gardens and grounds while under the care of the county. There is still a hospital in Gowanda but it is called Tri-County and serves the people of the area. The mental facility is now a prison facility of some sort. Hope this helps your dilemma.
