    1. Re: [NYERIE] KOFEJU and KRESGE surname
    2. Has anyone ever heard of this name, or know of anyone of this name? My grandmother's sister was named Martha Paul Pollard Kofeju (previously married to a POLLARD). KOFEJU was pronounced KAY-figh (if that makes sense--the last syllable rhymes with "high"). A whole bunch of them lived at 71 Lilac Street in Buffalo for a number of years, at least until the 1920 Census. I suspect the name has been transcribed wrong and that is why I can't find anything about them after that. I don't know when Martha Kofeju or her husband (Anthony Edmund "Eddie" Kofeju) died. Martha was born in 1882 in Kansas, and Eddie was born in 1884 in Austria. Their daughter, Jessie May POLLARD (born 1901), married Amos E. KRESGE. Amos Kresge was related to the family who started the old Kress Dime Stores, which eventually became K-Mart. I would appreciate any suggestions as to further Erie County resources I can search for information on this family. Is there a genealogical society that has a research service? Thank you........ 1. Thomas Crane - Buffalo - Died 1884
    2. Hello All - I've been trying to get some information on a Thomas Crane who owned a saloon in Buffalo in the early 1880's. He's present in the City Directories until 1885, when his wife Mary is listed instead. I figured that either he died or ran off with the barmaid sometime in 1884. Then I found a record on an LDS film "Cardfile of Death Records from News Clippings, 1812-1985" from Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society. The card merely says "Thomas Crane, Sept 29, 1884 Age 34". There's no citation for the source. I haven't done any previous research in Erie County (I'm trying to tie this Thomas Crane back to an Irish family in Oswego) so I'm hoping that I can benefit from everyone else's experience. Can anyone tell me how likely it is that there would be an actual death certificate or record with the City Clerk in Buffalo? What about a newspaper archives covering this period? I'm thinking that since he was only 34, perhaps his untimely demise was a newsworthy event, and would rate more than just a standard death notice. I'm in California, so I can't pop over there and check, and I confess, I'm getting a little weary of paying $20 a pop for "no record found" reports. Any help, comments, advice would be sincerely appreciated. Kathi ISBGGS New York - Thompson/Crane/Bramm/Fleischer Wisconsin - Meissner/Steng/Deim/Zeinninger
