    3. Your posting caught my eye because of the mention of Black Rock. My great-great grandmother emigrated from Ireland to Canada in 1840 but the boat landed at Black Rock which I can't figure out. Do you know anything from long ago about the area. I wonder why the ship went to NY and if passengers were then ferried across the lake and if so why. Was there no port in Ontario large enough for the ships? Grace ----- Original Message ----- From: "M. 3. All I know about the Black Rock area is that it was the area around the St. Francis church. It was just an area of the city - I thought it was in the city of Buffalo but maybe just north of the city limits. I love the fact that they slice the beef off a big roast add some au jus on the bun and top it with the crusty, salty remaining bun and voila!!! Best to order a side of German potato salad and some pickled beets as well. This of course must be washed down with a tall cool German type adult beverage. OOOH what I wouldn't give to have one for lunch today. The best part about Schwable's is it's old corner bar ambience and maybe that helps to make the whole "weck" experience. But with all the "weck" discussion which I have enjoyed immensely why could we not do a mini roll call for a week or two with a limit of five names? The names should be in caps and in the subject line. What does the list manager think? Also shared that in the middle of all my tombstone digital photos - there's a photo of my beef on weck sales receipt! Yuuuuuumm. Sure don't have those here in northern California! :) Someone said we were getting off to the side here re: all the food - but I agree that this is part of the "local history" for our Erie County lives or ancestors. May I toss in another thing about the area I wish I had here too? Wegmans grocery stores! I stayed in a motel where I had a mini-refrigerator, a microwave and a wireless connection. What else would I need? lol Stayed in Amherst, so I could do both my Niagara County genealogy and my trips down into Buffalo. Just off the beltway (if you call it that there! lol) so could easily get back to the airport too. Well - got my rations over at Wegmans. A BIG DEAL to make beef on weck there too. Have a couple of photos of the counter and people - slicing the beef, the sign, etc. All part of "being there", right? (Also went to the Niagara County Fair while there and had the best piece of corn (white and yellow kernals) I'd had in my life --- but now I'm REALLY vearing off topic for this group!) I am not surprised to hear it, since 1965 or so is the earliest that they might have started using computers for this kind of record-keeping. To input all previous owners of all properties dating back to the Holland Land Company requires enormous labor costs and this is a county where people already feel too heavily taxed. *:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,_,.-:**:-.,_,.-* Cynthia Van Ness, MLS, bettybarcode AT yahoo DOT com http://www.BuffaloResearch.com "Everyone claims to want a city, but no one here wants city living.
