    3. Hi Last week there was some discussion about a St. Andrews Church, Lutheran denomination, located at Sherman & Peckham. Does anyone know if its records have been microfilmed? If so where can a person view the records?...LDS, the library??? I don't remember anyone saying where or if the records were available. Thank you for advising me. 3. Hi Ruth and all, When I was born, we lived at 235 Sherman. It was about 600 feet from St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, but my family wasn't a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) then, so we attended St. Ann's RC Church a couple blocks away. Now that I am LCMS, I have become interested in the Lutheran and other Protestant churches of Buffalo. St. Andrew's had a lintel or cornerstone with the words "St. Andreas Evangelische" which is the name in German. Chances are the services were in German until WWI. St. Ann's school taught the kids from the same neighborhood in German around the turn of the century. Chances are good most of the neighborhood spoke German, which was why they all tended to live so close together for a few generations. That, and the lack of significant auto transportation and the lack of television to teach them English kept them close knit. But I digress. St. Andrew's lost it's steeple years ago. The church had been taken over by a black congregation and the name was changed. The steeple was beyond repair and removed. It once had been a tall spire with a cross. I used to have a picture of the steeple removal. I need to look and see if it is still on my computer. I wonder what the inside of St. Andrew's looked like. I was too young to walk down there. We left that neighborhood when my folks bought their first house. I was only two years old. I have not heard what happened to the church records, but you may want to check with any LCMS church in the Buffalo/Erie County area. I think the big LCMS church there is named Trintiy. They were married in 1919 by Herbert C. Leopold (at least that's what it looks like). Leopold is listed as clergyman. I'm trying to find out what church Leopold may be connected to. Ancestry.com doesn't help. My great-grandparents belonged to St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sherman and Peckham. I find very little about the church which served the German community for 125 years. It is in Buffalo's Faith Elevators but not Jillaine's webpage. The church later joined the Missouri Synod of Lutherans before closing in 1983. The marriage record doesn't give where they were married specifically, other then Buffalo. I am still interesting in finding a copy of a page in 1871-72 City Directory for the name MONCRIEF (various spellings) Any information about the area called "Uniontown" in the 1850s would be very much appreciated. Also, I noticed on the 1870 Federal Census that most the those living on Moniter Street were iron workers or in furnace work in the ROLLING HILL IRON WORKS. Any information on this mill also would be appreciated..(My great-grandfather worked there 1865-1875 then left and went to the Union Mills in Athens, PA. I was wondering what to do with the Organ as it HUMS loudly even when it is not played and I thought if I contacted the company, I could find out what to do with it. My husband just wants me to get rid of it. Research says it was made around 1953 and that it has a unique sound that others made after it do not have. I just don't know what to do with it as it is so heavy and I really don't use it much.
