He was mentioned in Mr. Vanderbilt's will. He died on June 29, 1938 It may be available through the Vanderbilt Library at the Hyde Park Estate. Doug played poker every Friday night for decades with my father-in-law. Needless to say, I noted the entry, but I did not copy it. Mr. Vanderbilt was a very private man and made particular note of his favorite employees. Doug was very tall and had a majestic bearing, so to me he was the quintessential chauffeur.
