    3. I am seeking evidence on the parents of this John Akin. John Akin is described in detail in "The Settlers of the Beekman Patent" by Frank Doherty in Vol 2:85-86. The marriage is documented in "Marriages and Deaths 1778-1825 Dutchess County, NY" compiled by Helen Wilkinson Reynolds. Frank states that John Akin, Esq. was an attorney at law and was one of the editors of the Poughkeepsie Journal. He died soon after his marriage on 22 Nov 1808 in the home of Philip Hart in the town of Washington as described in the Poughkeepsie Journal dated 30 Nov 1808. Frank Doherty documents two children from this marriage: Mary Elizabeth Akin, b. 16 Nov 1803, m. 23 Jan 1829 James Brooks, Esq.; and William Edward Akin, b. March 1805 but died as an infant. Frank assigns this John Akin to be the son of Benjamin and Lydia Almy Akin who was born in Dartmouth 12 Apr 1767, but Frank admits that this connection is based on circumstantial evidence. My problem is that there is another John Akin for whom there is also circumstantial evidence that he might be the son of Benjamin and Lydia. I am hoping that someone might find some reference to this man's age at death or better yet a reference to his parents. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
