    2. Ginny B.
    3. As many of my fellow listers may know, Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery holds a special meaning for me since my maternal grandfather was a caretaker there in the 1920's. With that in mind I thought some of you might be interested in learning more about the "Friends of the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery" organization by clicking on the link below. http://www.geocities.com/ginnyflies/prcfriends.html Here you will also find links to articles in pdf format written by yours truly for the Friends Newsletter published twice a year. These articles center on specific Mausoleums/burial plots located in the cemetery, the history behind them and some history of those who repose there as it relates to our local history. In the past the "Friends" have purchased and planted trees for the cemetery to replace those which were destroyed by storms or disease. This is a program they hope to continue on a yearly basis. Among other activities, they sponsor walking tours and have refurbished the fountain in the cemetery lake and added an additional one. Their work is on-going to keep this historical spot on the majestic Hudson River the place of beauty, serentity and repose in the Hudson Valley it has become known as since its establishment in 1853.
