My ancestor was Jacob Brower b. May 8, 1772. He is believed to be the son of Nicholas Brouwer/Brower/Brewer b. 1714 NJ, who lived at Wappingers Falls, Dutchess Co NY from at least 1744 thru 1778, when he died. Nicholas ran a Flour Mill on Wappingers Creek, the area of Fishkill is associated with him. The home that his father built and left to him still stands today there, it is refered to as the Brewer-Mesier Home. After the death of Nicholas Brower/Brewer his wife, Sarah Drake, re- married to Stephen Callow, and they lived in Clinton, Dutchess Co NY. My ancestor Jacob Brower was raised by his step-father and mother, as he was only 6 yrs old when his father died. Sarah Drake was born about 1744, her parents are said to be John Drake and Sarah Trotter. Dear Lilly, This may be a clue about the DRAKE surname in case you have not had clues since you posted. There are families that I researched in early Westchester County . Many of these families moved up the Hudson River into Duchess County,NY .The DRAKE name popped up over and over in standard Westchester Co. records WESTCHESTER PATRIARCHS by Norman DAVIS has,for example ,at least 14 references in the index to DRAKE given names. EARLY WILLS OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY FROM 1664to 1784 by PELLETREAU has in the Index about 20 to25 such references. Have you tried these references? Perhaps they are on-line somewhere. They are in many libraries. C.J.Sheldon I have never found anyone researching John Drake and Sarah Trotter. I would like to know and share more about them. I found alot of Drake to Trotter marriages in New Jersey. I am wondering if Sarah Drake was raised in Dutchess Co NY? She was married in Poughkeepsie DRC. Normally the wedding is at the brides home church, so this may indicate she was from a Drake family in Poughkeepsie. I would love to know more about her particular Drake family. My ancestor Jacob Brower had 2 older half brothers, and he had 2 older full brothers. His closest brothers were Jeremiah Brower and William Brower. I have never found Jeremiah Brower later in Life, but there is a man named such who lived in Westchester Co NY who seems to correspond with the right time frame. Jacob Brower b. 1772 married Abigail Manning b. 1772. I presume she is of the same Manning families who lived at Clinton, Dutchess Co NY. This would mean that Jacob and Abigail were close neighbors and were raised in the same community. I believe that by 1800 Jacob Brower and his wife were living in Manhattan (NYC). I have not found their death records, or where they died, but I have found out alot about their children.
