    3. I couldn't agree more with Susan's remarks! Ancestry certainly has fouled up RootsWeb, which used to be a wonderful way to communicate and to research. I've never subscribed to Ancestry because I can't afford it, though my genealogy society and county library system have subscriptions, so I can use it either place. I agree that there is more correct information to be obtained from libraries and local historical societies. You might also check with your local or county library. Mine subscribes to both Ancestry and Heritage Quest (I can access the latter from home with my library card), and I have found marvelous information searching Heritage books. Just recently I found Gertrude Barber's Will Abstracts for Dutchess (also Columbia) at Heritage, and printed out about 30 pp of abstracts for Snyders. Also tax records. I'm searching for the parents of my gr-gr-grandfather Cyrus Snyder,(b Apr 28 1832) who lived in both Columbia and Dutchess counties, so I'm tracking down all the Snyders and Schneiders in the area, trying to make a connection. Not easy, when there were TWO William Snyders in the same Town in Columbia! Yikes! I'm pretty sure he must be Palatine descended, as was his wife, Rebecca Smith (Schmidt), whose line I have.
