I was told many people of that time period could not afford grave markers or over time many of them have been destroyed or deteriorated. Also if they were farmers graves might be located on farms and probably covered by now. Wife may have moved to where son lived or her family as women were not allowed to own property at that time period unless it was stated in husband's will. Have you tried the FAmily History Library for records? They have microfilmed many old churchs for that time period. Website is: www.familysearch.org.
