I have an ancestor James Rose(Rosa) who served in the Revolutionary War from Dutchess Co. NY.? The family written passbook says that "James was awarded by the government, a large tract of land?for safely delivering a message over a dangerous road?and that part of the land is where the town of Kinderhook now stands."? He died in 1783 or 1784 and his children were quite small.? His widow never established a claim to the land and she married a Mr. Terwilliger.? Is there any definite proof that James Rose was to receive this land grant? His son James Rose was born Jan 13 1778.? He was 5 when his father died.? I descend from James.
