To Marilyn McNamara and Listers: : Myron Henry SMITH / BARLOW-Resident of Homer and Cortland from1922-1943 b. 07.DEC1880 in Millbrook,Duchess Co.,NY to Elizabeth G. [BARLOW] known as Libbie ,and Addison Vail SMITH. Addison was from the Quaker family of Staphen H.SMITH and Lydia [VAIL] SMITH of Stanford [ -ville]. I do NOT know her parents' names nor the place of marriage for which I have searched. Libbie died about 1886 and is buried in the Hicksite Cemetery in Stanford where Stephen and Lydia SMITH are also buried. At some point within 1 to 3 years, The SMITH son-Myron Henry was adopted into a BARLOW family--I presume a relative of the child's deceased mother's family. There is family lore on this: That Myron was adopted by an 'uncle' who was a dentist in the county ,a Charles K. BARLOW. However,so far, I have found nothing on this adoptive parent. By 1898, Myron was nearing majority and decided to enter the U.S. NAVY as a seaman: I have a list of his Naval Assignments from Nov.17,1898........to.......31.Jan.1922:Then to Naval Reserves until.......01.Jan.1931. 30 years of Honorable Service. On 27.APR.1942 ,he also registered for possible service in WW-2, but was not called up. Myron H. BARLOW died 11.Dec.1943 at age 68 in Homer,Cortland Co.,NYS. BU. at ATWATER Cemetery,TWP. of Homer,NY. Myron H. BARLOW was the 1 /2 brother of my own father--Lloyd Addison SMITH--with a common father. Myron lived with my family most of the time from 1922 until his death in 1943. He was known to us children as Uncle Bud and much-loved- particularly by the younger of the 5 children in the L.A. SMITH family. Marilyn--Nice to hear from you so soon again. Charlotte J.Sheldon
