Hi cousin Suzie, Good to hear from you again! Thanks for your help. Now, if you could just decipher all that for me. I can't figure out who was where and who was taxed..... According to the DAR, he was a Pvt. in the Rev. War as he was listed in their DAR Patriot Index, Centennial Edition. He is also listed in other sources, as well. Perhaps the Ulster Militia was not as formal a group as others. That's why I'm trying to find out info. on that reg't. Hi Cousin Marcia:-) What I sent is the tax lists for Dutchess County and it is quite confusing. Especially as there seems to be two Joseph Sherwoods of age to pay taxes! David, Joseph and another Joseph were all taxed in the Southern Precinct for Dutchess County. The second Joseph was living on Eagers farm and paid the taxes 1768 to 1771 and then moved the Philips (Philipse). Then Joseph who was originally living in the Southern Precinct moved to Philipse and was taxed: In the Town of Philipse, p. 295 Sherwood Jeremiah 1774-1779 John 1774-1779 Joseph 1772; farm 1775-1779 Whether these three are related, I guess, has to found. I did check at www.footnote.com which has the original pension files and service records and only found a Joseph Sherwood and Nathaniel Sherwood on the pay roll of the 2nd New York Regiment commanded by Col. Philip Cortlandt. I will send you a copy by private email as the list messages won't take attachments. What I saw on the website of Sherwoods is that Joseph b. 16 May 1712 d. abt 1760 in the Oblong, Dutchess county and married Mary about 1734 and had: l. Nathan D. b. 16 Jan 1737/38 md. Joanna Noble. 2. Sarah 3. Betty 4. Mary 5. Stephen 6. Ebenezer 7. Joseph 8. Abigail 9. Eunice I think you should get in touch with the author of the website with the Sherwood descendants and ask about sources for the children of Joseph and Mary.
