Margaret's maiden name may have been Lee Family tradition says Samuel is the son of James Smith, son of Samuel Smith and Mary Ensign , who maried Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Chiliab and Hannah (Hitchcock ) Smith. On Dec 11 1766, in Nine Partners, Dutchess NY, Stephen married Dorcas Way (b. 24 Aug 1747, daughter of John Way(28 Jan 1721,Lebanon, New London, Connecticut,) and Mary Stebbins. DNA testing as part of the N.E. Smiths project has confirmed a relational link to Reverend Henry Smith of Wethersfield Ct., but I am trying to bridge the gap between Stephen, his father Samuel, and Samuels parents. And previous research carried out in Sharon CT by Dale Smith supports this.
