    1. [NYDUTCHE] Three Husteds Named Thaddeus - Additions and Corrections
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: GeorgeHusted50 Surnames: Classification: military Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.dutchess/9758/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There were three people named Thaddeus Husted in Fairfield County, CT in the 1700's. This has caused considerable confusion for some researchers. I have distinguished the three different Thaddeus Husteds by placing a number in parentheses after the first name. Cuyler Reynolds blended all three in his work, "Hudson-Mohawk Genealogical and Family Memoirs" and attributed the service record of Thaddeus(3) Husted, son of Peter Husted to Thaddeus(1) Husted, son of Zebulon Husted. Spencer Mead and Edith Wicks both get the baptismal date confused in their works. Donald Lines Jacobus is the only one to correctly relate the information of one of the Thaddeus Husteds in his work, "A History of the Seymour Family, Descendants of Richard Seymour of Hartford, Connecticut". However, his work does not mention the Revolutionary War service of Thaddeus(3). I offer the information below in an attempt to provide clarity for other researchers and to attempt to set the record straight. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The first Thaddeus Husted [hereafter designated as Thaddeus(1) Husted] was born to Zebulon Husted and Abigail __________on August 31, 1750. Thaddeus(1) Husted married (first) May 25, 1775, in Stamford, Connecticut, Rhoda Davenport. Children of Thaddeus(1) Husted and Rhoda Davenport: - Shadrach - Deborah - Catharine Thaddeus(1) Husted married (second), 1788, Demeus Mead, born April 24, 1761. [Note: Demiss Mead, child of Jesse Mead & Rachel Knapp, was born Sept 26, 1761] Children of Thaddeus(1) Husted and Demeus Mead: - Thaddeus, born in New Canaan, Connecticut. [most likely an error] - Debby, married, July 26, 1804, Henry Baremore, son of James and Elizabeth (De La Vergne) Baremore. Elizabeth De La Vergne was a daughter of a Mary Husted, a descendant of Robert, the immigrant. - Catherine, married, December 23, 1820, Squire Wedge, later of Lucerne county, Pennsylvania. - Henry, born 1790, died 1810. - Samuel, born 1793, died 1848. - Leander, born 1795, died 1798. - Nathaniel, see forward. - Eliza, born May 4, 1801, died March 31, 1872. - Lyman, born June, 1804, died April, 1858. ******************************* Sources: Huntington, Reverend Elijah B., REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS OF STAMFORD FAMILIES, Stamford, April 6, 1797, E - H. The first Thaddeus Husted born to Peter Husted and Ann Seymour [hereafter designated as Thaddeus(2) Husted] was baptized in New Canaan [then part of Norwalk], CT on March 26th, 1758 and died young. The second Thaddeus Husted born to Peter Husted and Ann Seymour [hereafter designated as Thaddeus(3) Husted] was baptized in New Canaan [then part of Norwalk], CT on July 26, 1759. [Note: both Mead and Wicks erroneously report Thaddeus(3) Husted's baptism as March 26th, 1758 while the Connecticut Church Records clearly indicate the second and surviving Thaddeus(3) Husted's baptism as being on July 26th, 1759.] Thaddeus(3) Husted married Abigail Seymour, Jan. 24, 1782. They had the following children: - Polly Husted, born Jan.15, 1783. - Thomas Seymore Husted, born Mar. 6, 1784. - Nancy Husted, born Jan.12, 1786. - Thomas Seymore Husted, 2d., born Feb. 6, 1788. - Thaddeus Husted, born Jan. 29, 1790. - Samuel Husted, born April 26, 1798. - Morris Husted, born Feb. 13, 1795. - Morris Husted, 2d., born June 2, 1797. ******************************* Sources: Connecticut Church Records, New Canaan Church 1733-1899, Connecticut State Library, Page 196. After collecting that pension for a period of time, it was discontinued. He reapplied for a pension in 1832 and it was granted posthumously to his wife Abigail. Photographs of the microfiched records of his service in the 2nd Troop, 3rd Regiment of the Connecticut Light Horse Milita may be viewed here: Quartermaster http://www.myfamily.com/isapi.dll?c=Content&htx=View&siteid= qSj&contentid=YZZZZYVE&contentclass=PICT&categoryid=1000146 Cornet http://www.myfamily.com/isapi.dll?c=Content&htx=View&siteid= qSj&contentid=YZZZZYQH&contentclass=PICT&categoryid=0 Lieutenant - 1783 http://www.myfamily.com/isapi.dll?c=Content&htx=View&siteid= qSj&contentid=YZZZZYVC&contentclass=PICT&categoryid=1000146 I also have in my possession a copy of the microfiche record detailing his service as Captain of the same unit in 1784. I have not yet scanned it into the computer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE FOLLOWING IS A CORRECTION TO MY FIRST POSTING OF THIS ARTICLE: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thaddeus(3) Husted, son of Peter and husband of Abigail Seymour states in his 1832 Pension application that he served under Captain Daniel Bouton at the time Captain Bouton was injured. He went on to also serve under Noah Bouton. Captain Daniel Bouton was a captain in the 4th Regiment, Westchester County Militia. Thaddeus(3) Husted recorded as enlisted in the 4th Regiment, Westchester County Militia. This record can be viewed in "New York in the Revolution as Colony and State": http://www.fortklock.com/nyrevwest-4.pdf It is likely (though not proved) that Thaddeus(1) Husted, son of Zebulon Husted and husband of Rhoda Davenport and Demiss Mead is the Thaddeus Husted listed in Willets regiment of the New York Levies. This record can be viewed in "New York in the Revolution as Colony and State": http://www.fortklock.com/nylevieswillett.htm. Any other alleged military service by Thaddeus(1) Husted, has yet to be documented and the assertions of his service by Cuyler Reynolds in his work, "Hudson-Mohawk Genealogical and Family Memoirs" are demonstrably in error.
