I started working on Thomas Carey this year. My wife is a desendant of Earl Holley Carey. I searched the US cesus for Thomas Cary and Carey in NY and PA from 1790 forward. The curious thing is there was a Thomas Cary living in Broome Co., NY and a Thomas Carey in Wyoming Co., PA at the same time and were in the same age range. Both are credited with being born in Fishkill, NY in 1776. However, Thomas in Tunnkanock supposedly died in 1841 (Feb 22) and Thomas in Union, NY was still alive in 1850. So there are two possibilities; one, one of the Thomas Careys (Cary) was not born in Fishkill in 1776 or; two, it is the same guy and faked his death in 1841. I talked to the genology libarian in Tunnkanock, PA. She has a letter in the file that says Thomas is buried in Starkvile, PA in an unmarked grave next to his son Ransler (Ramsler, Van Ransler). I visisted the Stark Cemetery in Starkville, no Ransler grave and only one Carey grave. Also, the stones aren't much older then 1860. You mentioned you found Thomas Cary in the 1820 census in Tunnkanock, PA. I didn't. I had a Thomas in Putnam Co., NY and Broome Co., PA. I visited the Nanticoke Cemetery in Broome Co. and found a Thomas Cary who was born in 1794 (this is probably the Thomas Jr. that shows up in other lines). There was also a Nathan Cary died in 1850 or 1860 (?) age 77 (?). Hopefully you are stil there. David, Fabius, NY Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
