I've "rescued" an old photograph of Isaac THOMPSON which was taken at the W. E. Bain Studio which I believe was in Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mr. THOMPSON appearing to be in his 80's at the time the photograph was taken. In addition to his name, someone has written "born Nov 18th 1796" and "A Merry Xmas and Happy New Year" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Isaac and his family: Isaac THOMPSON b. 18 Nov 1796 in Pittston, PA the son of James THOMPSON (b. 4 Jan 1759 in Ireland) and Susannah Jane SKELTON (b. 17 Aug 1750 in Buckingham, PA). Isaac married Mariah "Maria" WILCOX (b. Beekman, NY) on 18 Jun 1818. Isaac died 29 Sept 1900 in Lee, IL. Isaac and Maria had the following children, Matilda; Jane; Almon; Alva D.; Ezekial G.; Isaac; David; William H.; John W.; Francis Ashbury; George L.; Rhoda S.; and Gardner W. THOMPSON all born between 1819 and 1841 in PA. Census records provide the following information regarding this family: 1860 census of Pittston Boro, PA: Isaac THOMPSON, age 63, a Farmer, born PA Maria THOMPSON, age 61, a Housekeeper, born NY Eliza THOMPSON, age 30, a School Teacher, born NY Gardner W. THOMPSON, age 19, a Farmer, born PA Dennis MCNERR, age 28, a Book Agent, born Ireland 1870 census of Alto Township, IL: Isaac THOMPSON, age 73, a Farmer, born PA Maria THOMPSON, age 72, Keeping House, born NY Gardner THOMPSON, age 28, born PA 1880 census of Alto, IL: Isaac THOMPSON, age 85, born PA, a Retired Farmer, parents born PA/Ireland Maria THOMPSON, wife, age 84, born NY, Keeps House, parents born NY/MA 1900 census of Alto Township, IL: Gardner W. THOMPSON, age 58, born Jul 1841, married 27 years, born PA, parents born PA/NY, a Farmer Mary E. THOMPSON, wife, age 46, born Oct 1852, married 27 years, 3 children/1 living, born IL, parents born NJ/PA Frank G. THOMPSON, son, age 23, born Oct 1876, born IL Isaac THOMPSON, father, age 103, a widower, born PA, parents born Ireland/Wales Cornelius LAYTON, boarder, age 48, born Mar 1852, born NJ, parents born NJ, a Farm Laborer I am hoping to be able to return the photograph to a member of this THOMPSON Family so that it can once again become a cherished family possession.
