But I do have a lot more on Douglas. Most of it is related to his employment for the Vanderbilts. I have at least one photograph of him as a small boy standing in front of their house on the Hyde Park estate, and a wonderful photo of him standing beside the Vanderbilt's automobile--looking quite the chauffeur. We also have about 4 or 5 interviews with him. Let me know if you are interested in this, or if you already have it. Joseph Sewell, Elkanah & Margaret Sewell Sherman, Lemuel & Rebekah Sewell Lewis, and Anna Sewell were residing in Beekman Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY in 1758 (MA Land Records, S Worchester, book 41). At least Joseph & sister, Anna were yet in Beekman Precinct through June of 1762. I am seeking information regarding all of these individuals as to migration. I am seeking marital information regarding Joseph; date of marriage for Anna Sewell & William Soule (variously spelled Sole, Sowles); descendants of Lemuel & Rebakah Sewel Lewis. Thankyou...Susan

My in-laws were Albert and Beatrice Keller who had the red farmhouse on Curry Lane. Bea and I were real estate brokers. I suggest going back to the Vanderbilt Library on slow days. There is a wealth of material there. Much of it was local in nature. There was a particularly interesting file on disability programs FDR had instigated. The Vanderbilt Mansion or the guset house was the office for the US government during WWII. I will email a map of Hyde Park from 1876 to anyone who emails me at prewarpro@aol.com. Just to let you know...my great grandfather Thomas T. Golden also worked at Vanderbilt's as a painter. In the 1930's he fell off a ladder there and fractured his skull. He died at the hospital a short time later(within a week or two.) I tried to get his employment record or any info. available and the Park's person did not have the time to help me. But, again I appreciate the lead to possible information. May I ask...who was your father-in-law? Have a great day, Ro Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYDUTCHE] Reminder: Palatine lecture
    2. Barbara de Mare
    3. The Genealogical Society of Rockland County starts off its 2007-2008 season with a program about our Palatine ancestors. This discussion is particularly timely, as plans are underway for a huge 2010 Hudson Valley celebration of the tricentennial of the arrival of the Palatines in our Valley. We are particularly honored to have Nan Dixon for our speaker for this program. Topic: Our Palatine Ancestors Speaker: Nancy Wagoner Dixon. Nan Dixon, a noted Palatine historian, is the author of the popular book, Palatine Roots: The 1710 German Settlement in New York as Experienced by Johann Peter Wagner. This book gives a wonderful background of why the Palatines came to New York, and of their adventures in the Hudson Valley. Mrs. Dixon is Vice President of the New York Chapter of Palatines to America and comes to us from upstate New York, near Lake Ontario. When: September 25, 2007, 7 PM Where: New City Library Palatine background: The Palatines came from all over Europe, but primarily from the lower Rhine area known as the Palatinate. They went up the Rhine to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and then eventually to England. The English Queen Anne had promised free passage and riches in America to all who would emigrate. Her Golden Book showing the lush land was the final incentive of many to make the voyage. Far more people made the pilgrimage to England for passage to America than had been anticipated. People waited in tent cities all over England. Those who eventually arrived on our shores found the themselves in virtual serfdom to the patroons, particularly Robert Livingston. They were fed by Governor Hunter with meager allowances from Livingston for their work. Eventually the hardiest (or the trouble-makers depending on your point of view) migrated further north to the Schoharie Valley. Some later continued on to be the first settlers of the Mohawk Valley. General Herkimer, the hero of the Battle of Oriskany in the Revolution, was a Palatine.
